Everyone has an opinion...and basically to each their own. Vito doesn't get much credit from the keyboard warrior set...and he did have his shortcomings...BUT he was trained by a great boxing guy named Freddie Brown...and if you look closely at Vito...the guy was tough and could fight.

Vito did come on late and he looked good then. With Hagler that doesn't hurt his legacy because he's remembered for what he did as a champion.

Not sure if you're serious here, but it's kind of odd to score the Hagler Duran fight 11 rounds to 4 as you're saying here. That seems a bit wide to me.

Not to me. And I think you'll find quite a few here who have a similar score.

But I was still impressed by Duran's performance. Think he looked much better than he did against for example Benitez and of course Hearns.

I guess I may have to pose such a question to the forum. To me, that is a bit wide.

The Antuofermo draw doesn't hurt Hagler's legacy. It shows how hard the title was for Hagler to come by and highlights the feat of his subsequent reign. Other greats have failed in their first title shots too, including such greats as Benny Leonard, Tony Canzoneri, Jimmy McLarnin, Azumah Nelson, and many more.

    Duran was a good win.

I would say it diminishes his standing.

Antuofermo wasn't that good and was rather cut prone. Most think Hagler edged the fight, although the official verdict was a draw.

Duran was a great lightweight moving up to middle, and Hagler was way too respectful in that fight.

Why Hagler had some issues with confident type opponents is an issue as he was the more durable and stronger fighter.

Thing is, none of the old-timers (1950s, 40s and before) ever (or rarely) get criticized for "showing respect" and "carrying" opponents but they freely admitted to doing that often.
Archie Moore, Henry Armstrong, Sugar Ray Robinson etc. they let guys stay the course sometimes, or held back and showed respect, ddn't feel the need to kill everyone every time.
It's not as if Hagler was cautious to the point of stinking out the place.

I dont think they hurt his standing but I think they provide clues to his limitations. I thought the draw was perfectly fine. Certainly not a robbery. Hagler had weird tendency to under-perform or rely on really stupid strategies that made some of his fights tougher than they should have been. Giving Duran, the smaller fighter, so much respect, electing to box with Leonard (orthodox no less), slugging with Mugabi, blowing his load early with Antuofermo, etc. Those were all curious, easily avoidable mistakes by just adhering to some of the basics of boxing. I dont think Hagler was nearly as confident as he pretended or as tough mentally. But these two fights dont hurt what he actually accomplished and where he stands. Even when he was a headcase he was still hell for anyone.

Not at all. The win over Duran is one of his biggest.

i actually agree with the judges. Vito did indeed pull even with Hagler. Hagler tired and lost most of the late rounds. In short, Vito roughed him up and outhustled him late

    deal with it

The Duran fight, Hagler layed back too much waiting for Duran to come to him.

as a result, it was a boring fight with Marvin throwing mostly arm punches

Hagler's lone loss of his career has yet to be seen but thankfully we get to see him avenge that loss (tko 12)

wasnt Willie also stopped in prior fight? (tko by 4)

You seem to have forgotten about Hagler's most important loss - the one that ended his career. Who was that guy who beat him again, Sugar something? Hmm..........
