As no film exists of Harry Greb, we must assume certain things,so we can invision, his one of a kind style...We know by all accounts of the day,Greb was a great volume swarmer, with unlimited stamina, and an iron chin, that stood up to powerful punchers , from men 15 to 50 lbs. heavier than he, when occasionally tagged..He would start the first round of a fight, with a furious barrage of punches of every type, from uncanny angles, overwhelming all opponents... His attack usually picked up from there, and from many accounts of the day,was able to sustain this attack til the last round ended...Greb seldom gave the other guy the ball.....But,to do this weekly ,or more, for 300 bouts, travelling from town to town, Greb to do this schedule, and avoid cuts, which would not allow him to fight days later, his tremendous speed of foot, was uncanny. Tunney and others claimed Greb was never in one spot for more than a second, and it was almost impossible to time their punches so he could be tagged solidly...I think this elusivness, and speed afoot, allowed Greb to keep up his amazing schedule, against all opponents, regardless of size...His great offense, combined with great ability to avoid being hit solidly, made The Pittsburgh Windmill, unique.....

For me one on one sports are the toughest.

For me Boxing has been the toughest one on one sport

IMO Harry Greb, was one of the most amazing,Dominant fighters from 160-175lbs for the longest period of time and he fought every color, size and style

I know there is no available film of Harrys fight but I have seen some of his opponents and was very impressed, How good was this man to beat them weighing 15lbs + and Champions

A case may be made for Armstrong and SRR but In light of all the facts Greb having performed at top level in 298 fights and going out at the top at the age of 32

I rate Harry Greb # 1 and that is with out the fact

that he fought 5 years with the sight of one eye

It would need someone with a totally different mentality to modern fighters. Someone who isn't content to be world champion or even multi-weight champion, but rather someone who can't rest until they have crushed all potential opposition at their own weight and then several divisions higher, and no concern for the difficulties of fighting 10 times a year. That plus obviously having the talent to do so, only people on the Roy Jones Jr, Whitaker, or Robinson level could probably do it (i.e. sick talent that makes even great fighters look bad).
