Does Harry Wills have a case to be ranked higher than Jack Dempsey?

    Nah, it's definitely NOT stupid.

Sam Langford is the best man either man beat.

Dempsey was at the same stage of his career when admitted to ducking Sam, as Wills was when he first took him on.

McVey, Jeanette, there's no real reason to believe that Gibson and Firpo were better than them and I'm happy to say they weren't.

It might not be inarguably true; but dismissing it as "stupid" is, well, stupid.

Wills has no claim to be a better White Heavyweight.

But barring the color line, yes, Wills has an argument.

Certainly Wills has a case. A very strong case.

He was at the top longer. He beat better men. He won a higher percentage of his fights. He fought to a far older age. His percentage of tough fights was much higher.

The criticisms all fall back on the color line. He never beat a white champion. He fought the same black guys over and over because he had to with most white fighters ducking him.

Typical bait question. Not suprised. This is how you like to operate. You think your hiding your agenda ..please.
Wills looks like nothing on film absolutely nothing. Slow as molasses in a Canadian winter.

It’s actually a legitimate question and several very knowledgeable posters who have been around for many years like Edward, John, Seamus, Mcgrain all have spoken highly of wills in this thread

Your criticism of Wills looking like nothing on film is weak considering the surviving footage of Wills shows him at ages 35-37 years old...an age where most great heavyweights were long retired

How would you rate joe Louis if the only surviving film of him was his fights 1950-1951?

Rather than get angry, why don’t you reply to mcgrain or Edward with objective analysis for your disagreement

Not angry I just see through what your doing here. I stand by my assessment of Wills and always have. This is nothing new

You could make a fairly good case, but I wouldn't.

Dempsey and Wills might have been at the same stage of their careers ,but Dempsey was 20years old and Wills was 22.I'd argue that Wills would have been more physically developed than Dempsey was at the time.
