  1. It's entertaining trying to decipher these complex mind science arguments between people who are here to talk about boxing. :patsch

I couldn't disagree more. I think that most people absolutely live up to their potential with regard to IQ. Those folk you see on America's dumbest criminals robbing liquors stores with no clothes on, those are the people with 80 IQs. Then their are professionals like Obama and Doctors and College professors. Those are the people with 140 IQs and up. It really is pretty consistent.

The smarter man will defo be te smarter boxer.

Armchair fans wont know it but boxers will, you have to outsmart the other person. Hence why some fights are called chess matches.

However, THe point of a clever person not being good at maths or english is unimportant. As these are acquired skills as is boxing. So the boxer developing the art of boxing instead of the art of science doesnt mean hes anymore stupid than a scientist. Just not as academic. Theres a difference.

well, freddie roach has some intelligence when it comes to boxing, but he was more of a brawler when he fought.

athletic ability has something to do with it. wouldn't freddie have preferred to pick people apart & knock them out from long range? he couldn't because he was limited athletically.

or did freddie not understand boxing until he became a trainer?

  9. See...this is why you should just stop.

Those people you see on America's Dumbest Criminals.. You have no idea what their IQs are. You claim to know, but you really don't. People with IQs of 80 and lower are generally considered to be "Mildly ******ed." The guy you saw on the show robbing a liquor store may have a 120 IQ and just got involved with the wrong people who introduced him to crack rocks, malt liquor, and craps... Your IQ matters NOT AT ALL when all you want is some crack, a beer, and 4 dollar bills to play dice with.

But wtf am I arguing with you for? You are obviously a Mental Health Professional of some kind, with all that expertise just spilling out onto this boxing message board. :thumbsup

I don't know why you're arguing with me. My guess is you think you know what you're talking about. Also, the post you just quoted was called a joke, Einstein. Download yourself a sense of humor the next time you're online.:good

Wel u can win from range using intelligence or athleticism. but athleticism counts without a doubt.

Otherwise Stephen Hawking could get in and put up a show

  13. OH GOOD, for a moment there I thought you were really taking yourself seriously. Man those were some dumb posts. Funny though...I guess. :hey

Does having a higher intelligence equate to ring smartness?

Not necessarily, but it would no doubt help. I've noticed over the years that many boxers who make it to the top (capture world titles etc) have a very high intelligence, and may have had a career to fall back on. But a boxer with a higher intelligence doesn't guarantee them to have ring smartness. You could argue ring smartness is natural ability. A boxer will work on this ability over the course of his career, and will never stop learning.

I had a similar debate in university a couple of weeks back. The question was, 'Are leaders born or made?'
