If David Haye was flat footed, he would of not been able to out move Wladimir Kiltschko! A big fast, athletic super-heavyweight.

Not many Heavyweghts in history are faster than David Haye overall.

Somebody like Mike Tyson has faster hand speed but.? He does not have Haye's athleticism or speed of foot.

Muhammad Ali & Evander Holyfield where overall faster than David Haye.

Being nervous and twitchy does not equal speed.

When Haye can combine his "defense" with offense then we can call him fast. Simply running away does not do it for me.

Although Ali is faster in combos, the disparity is not as big as you think. Remember Ali hardly ever loaded up on his punches, but you don't need to when you have handspeed like that.

    1-2 On the backfoot:

Haye mostly used upper body movement, Wlad would stop Haye if he wasnt safety first fighter and a guy always satisfied to land his jab and possibly straight right once in 2 rounds, and then move back.
Tyson absolutely had better and faster footwork, what do you think enabled Tyson to get inside opponents jab and in great positions to land punches??? it was great fast footwork!!!

No way he is even close. Let just remember one ****ing reality, the heavyweight scene back then was 1,000 times the heavyweight garbage that is today. Haye would not be able to hang, period. Only in this **** of a heavyweight time can someone like Haye even have a thread. It is because the heavys are so **** that his handspeed looks decent.

Who had'nt been TKO'd since Tua.

Mate, just because the American heavyweight scene is **** doesn't mean you **** and other fighters from other countries. Haye is quick.

    Ali is faster in combos.
    Accurate and quick.

Haye is much better when shooting his single shots. He loads up more often because he is heavy handed.

What I'm trying to suggest is that the speed difference is not as big as you think.

Eddie, lay off the caffeine

I'm critical of Haye, but the HW div. today is much better than it was in Ali's era. Haye would beat nearly all of Ali's opponents - most of which where Hayes size or smaller and w/less overall skill.

You're way (1000X maybe  ) overrating the old timers.

Do you think Haye beats Norton, Frazier, Lyle, Foreman, Liston..?

They are all very exciting fights! I don't think the heavyweight division is better these days, you only have to watch the video tapes and analysis performances technically.

There are allot of big guys around to today, but they can't really fight.

    Very few are athletically gifted.

David haye is Fast.... he has fast hands but the loads up on many punches which slows the hands down... but the foot and upper body speed are off the chart.

David has great anticipation which makes him seem even faster

but his overall defense IMO is average if he is toe to toe. He can get hit a lot when he attacks.... his defense is great when he is just avoiding punches with limited counters

Haye has improved drastically in this regard. Watch his fight against Chisora. He fought excellently in the pocket. It looks like his moves were inspired by guys like Marciano and Henry Armstrong.
