Or is a bad chin something a fighter can't control even if he had a lot of heart to try and get up?

No. Two distinct catagories independent of eachother.

To a certain extent I think it does, it at least aides in the recovery powers part, when some guys are badly hurt, if they have immense heart they can power their way through it by sheer force of will.

Amir Khan aka A mere Con comes to mind when we compare heart and chin. Khan has the heart of a brahma bull but the chin of a possum because his best defense is when he is sleep.

I was gunna say the exact same thing, Khan’s heart is unflappable but that chin wilts at the first point of contact with a big shot.

Somewhat yes, having heart means to keep getting up when regular men would quit, and having a tough mindset is as important as power, speed or skill, you got to stop saying how much more can i take and start saying how much more can i give, if a person is psychd out their thinking "holy **** I can't beat this guy he's better than me" being psychd up is "I'm going to knock this s.o.b.'s teeth down his throat and he can't stop me"

It helps keep a fighter going but Self belief only works to an extent, some men are naturally more resistant to blunt force trauma

Only to a certain extent. A bad chin is a bad chin, but sometimes heart will keep a fighter going even after he is hurt, his heart can make him recover more quickly, it's mind over matter many times...............

Well if you get hit with the shot you don't see its good night if your chin says so. No matter how big your heart is. But recovery can depend somehow on heart: If your mind and heart is 100% there is bigger chance to get your body back in order. And we have examples like Mayorga who kinda boosted himself to take some freeshots cause he knew they are coming. Its moment where your heart and mentality makes your body so aware that you can take those shots.

So answer is: When you get clipped with big shot and body is 100% gone = so is your heart.
But you can boost up your chin in certain moments.

Heart is about your character and personality
Chin is about luck and having a short neck

Gattis chin let him down on numerous occasions but his heart pulled him through.
I think there is a bit of a correlation. Because once you get hit with a big one, the first instinct is to cover up/find a way out.

Some fighter's heart bars will diminish quicker because they know it only takes a couple of hit points to empty their chin bar to zero..
