Now that Haye is champion there are talks that his hero (Evander Holyfield) will be his next fight after Ruiz.

    There are two arguments here.

    1) Holyfield clearly outboxed Valuev and should have been the champ anyway.

    2) Haye will severely batter Holyfield to the point that making the fight would be dangerous.

If Holyfield can prove he's in good enough condition I don't see why it shouldn't be made. But It could easily be a sad night for boxing.

I don't like this, although Holy has a surprisingly good chance at an upset because of his durability, will, and Haye's gun-blazing and suspect chin.

Evander deserves a crack at early membership at AARP, nothing else.

As much as the next heavyweight, despite his age.

Why not? And I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't watch it. Would I enjoy watching it though? Probably not giving the chances are Holyfield will take a lot of punishment.

Haye got a shot with just two HW fights against substandard opposition so I think anyone would in theory deserve a shot at Haye.

I really don't see the point to this arguement. So does he start at the back end of the division after moving up? Should he beat behind Tye Fields in the pecking order simply because he had less HW fights? Or Audley Harrison? Surely his previous achievements in the CW division entitle him to a shot?

I guess Manny Pacquiao didn't deserve his shot at David Diaz's WBC lightweight title either because he hadn't had a fight at 135 before and so never beat anybody at the weight? Because it's the same principle. Or Floyd didn't deserve the shot at Oscar's WBC title at 154 because he'd never fought/beaten anybody at light-middle. It's the same principle.

Isn't Holyfield one of Haye's heroes? Would be sad to watch that.

I don't want to see Evander fight anyone that could beat him or inflict punishment on him.

    Preferably never fight again.

Not entirely, but I don't think beating Bonin and Barret warranted a title shot.

Perhaps it is, but I think there were people at HW more deserving of a shot at the title.

Well, no problem if the champs have no mandatory and want to make money fighting an elite fighter moving up in weight. Achievements at a lower weight does not garantee favoritism, but if it is going to make money for both fighters. Also, step aside money for the contender waiting. It is beneficial to the contender getting paid twice.

Finally, Haye was entitled to a shot due to his prior achievements how many times? He backed out of two titles and everyone pretty much gave up on him and then he fights a plodding giant and wins. Now he is the next best thing. I don't see that yet. Time will tell.

The thread could have read in the past; Does Haye deserve a crack at Valuev?

I don;t think Haye would do it, and he would have just cause. It would be more sad than Ali vs. Homes.
