intersting question i think. when people go on about holyfield's resume douglas rarely gets a mention.

yet he stopped the guy who defeated prime mike tyson. that is a huge achievemnet in my book, and one i dont think he gets enough credit for.

    what you guys think.

does he get the credit he deserves for stopping buster?

Im not voting on the poll because while Tyson wasn't in his prime, Douglas kicked his ass!

Holyfield one dinked Douglas when the latter was out of shape but that's not Evander's fault. The fat **** got lazy in camp and The Real Deal did his job!

Tyson would have still have been favourite if he rematched Douglas

Evander did what he had to do to Buster

Yeah I think Holyfield deserves credit for the win. He beat a world champ just coming off his best career win over the then top rated HW. If Douglas came in under prepared, thats not Holyfields fault.

Only reason he doesn't get credit from critics is because Buster turned up grossly out of shape. However, critics will be critics... i give him credit for beating the guy that was put in front of him but he was not the same fighter that beat Mike Tyson

Not his fault at all that the champ didn't care anymore after beating Tyson. Of course beating a focused Douglas would have been a bigger achievement, still a good win for Holy.

Food for thought, good topic.Douglas was an enigma because he had some talent and was capable of good performances but he was lazy and lacked the fortitude to have a lengthy successful title reign.Holyfield did what he had to do against a Douglas that was not in great shape and not as prepared as he was against Tyson. In spite of that,it's still a victory over the guy at that point,so Holyfield deserves at least a bit of credit.
Didn't Douglas' mother pass away just before the Tyson fight? And if she did,how did it affect Douglas?

Douglas was a live guy, he was and always will be one of those fighters who never really lived up to what he could have been but we did see that in the Tyson fight imagine a Douglas Holyfield fight with douglas in that kind of shape.
Holyfield did knock out a over weight douglas no doubt, but I will say this he pretty much did this with a single shot early in the fight and James never hit Holyfield with anything really...
Great win for Evander.... too bad we had to wait until 96 to see Tyson Holyfield... imagine that fight just after the douglas fight...

Douglas accomplished nothing before or after Tyson, so clearly he just got lucky. Also Douglas's performance against Tyson wasn't exactly superhuman, Tyson's defense was total ****, head-movement and combination punching were nonexistent. The only great quality Tyson showed in that fight is he can get the living **** kicked out of him before finally going down.

Ironically the Tyson that Douglas beat nearly anybody could have beaten, and the Douglas that Holyfield beat could have been beaten by nearly anybody as well.

Douglas was the best he could be against Tyson. He was the worst he could be against Holyfield, and he was never a great fighter. I would say it doesnt do a lot for Holyfields career and its rarely mentioned by anyone as being a big achievement other than taking all the titles.

He gets some credit for it, but it's not one of his best wins by a longshot.

he should get credit for it, although history tends to not look kindly on fights like this (where one guy is supposed to take on another but one gets upset so those two fight)...another example of this is floyd-baldomir...holyfield should get credit, but because it turns out that buster just got lucky against mike, he wont.

Tyson wasn't right in his fight against Douglas, as Golota wasn't right for his fight against Lewis.

I do give Holyfield credit though.
