We know he's the best Cruiser EVER But Bearing in mind he was a natural cruiserweight are his accomplishments as a heavyweight actually under rated? He was outweighed by an average of "35lbs" in wins against Douglas, Bowe and Foreman. He almost stopped Bowe with a one punch KO when he was ill. He was outweighed horrendously against Lewis when he was past it and gave him hell in a rematch. Not including his wins over Tyson this guy defied not only the odds but huge weight advantages throughout his glorious career. We give Pacquiao huge credit for wins over heavier guys - aren't Holyfield's stats even more impressive? Sure he lost but his resume is unbelievable against far larger men!
I agree its amazing what he did against men alot bigger but hes not done enough to be top ten. Hes top 30 imo.
Okay then. I now realise I'm talking about such a low acheiving and average fighter. Thanks for showing me the light!?!?
I know of Sam Langford and Barney Ross mate but these guys were walking with the dinosaurs. I should have emphasised modern era because I'm not getting involved in convos regarding fighters who wore gloves filled with horse hair and were around before the Marques of Queensbury had his first pull. No lengthy footage exists of these guys and you are basically fighting against nostalgia. A fight that Holyfield could never win!
Yeah laugh your ass off? How many fights did Ross have? Do extended highlight from a few fights equal the totality of a full career? Answers on a post card!
Yeah, in the 90's. Now he's still pretty good for his age but not really in any form to really compete with any elite competition at heavyweight. (Apart from Valuev lol) He should call it a career soon. Very soon.
I've watched Ross fight mate and to be honest I don't think the athletes then compare with the modern era. I don't buy into nostalgia because these guys fought 1000 times and documentarys show them trading in slow motion with a sad tune in the background. Got me on Holy's blood doping and I don't agree with it but I'll tell you what, in this day and age, I'd like to see how many of the modern elite havn't dabbled. Did you read Hauser's article on it recently?
Oh my bad. Like you said, obviosly for cruiser but I don't know about all time. Too many fighters lol.
LOL I never said that, smart ass! Ross fought over 100 times (Boxing Rec Not Used) and we have a small percentage of that available. If you only had footage of Lewis pre Emanuel Steward you would think he was average. Nobody will ever know how good Robinson was because we don't have him in his prime for example. Just making a point! In short though - Ross doesn't measure up to Holyfield on what I have seen in no way, shape or form!
