Yes but Ali and Frazier were all great fights and both fighters came to fight.

Last time Calzaghe was the only one trying to push the fight that was obvious to everyone watching it. If Hopkins had decided to contribute to an exciting matchup I am positive that the rematch would be on as the money would be too good to turen down and the public and all TV networks would be behind it.

The prospect of seeing another 12 rounds like the last one can't appeal to many people.

It's also cause he knows theirs a good chance he'd lose and it would reverse the outcome of the last fight. Too much a risk fight for Calzaghe and he knows it and so does his fans. That was Joe's hardest fight of his career regardless of what everybody is saying about Hopkins trying to spoil the fight, they know.

and if joe had the attitude of a champion he'd want to erase any doubt about the first fight and prove who the better fighter is like those i mentioned in my earlier post but its obvious hes just not cut from that cloth

and in case you didnt watch it the second ali frazier fight was a clinch fest too with ali repeatedly holding frazier behind the neck and clinching him in close

I've already voted no, for reasons I've stated in a prior post. But realistically, if Joe wants to keep fighting, this is only fight out there that would make any type of sense money-wise, despite how horrible the first fight was to watch.

Exactly. Ali did a fair share of clinching himself in his second career and anytime you got a good pressure fighter there's gonna be clinching. What Hopkins did in that fight was strategic and Hopkins has always made fights rough in the inside. Watch the Joppy and Holmes fight, he did lots of clinching. It's part of the game and even the fighters from the past like Sandy Saddler for instance did loads of inside clinching and dirty fighting. A fight isn't suppose to look pretty.

We'd get a repeat of the first fight, but perhaps more lopsided for Calzaghe.

An important reason why? Hopkins still doesn't think he lost. And, just like the Taylor fights, if he doesn't think he lost, he'll fight essentially the same fight in the rematch. And unless Cortez is the ref, he won't get away with it for starters and Calzaghe will adjust to it earlier. Hops fought the smartest fight he could the first time around- try to land one or two clean shots, then rough him up on the clinch to try and slow Calzaghe down by bullying him. It worked for the first 3 rounds and then the right couldn't land for the most part (I think I gave Hops the 9th, but that was it after the early going) after Calzaghe adjusted and he was reduced to stalling tactics when it became a case of Calzaghe being both faster and better conditioned. As the fight wore on, we also saw Hopkins actually losing the "dirty" fight, which is why he got frustrated and faked the low blows.

If Hopkins opens up offensively more, he's going to leave himself more open to a guy with a speed and workrate advantage- do the math, and you wind up with a more convincing loss. Fighting ugly was Bernard's best chance at winning the first time around, and I'm nearly certain he would repeat the exact same thing in the rematch. He's not dumb enough to delude himself into thinking what worked on Pavlik will work on Calzaghe.

That's also why I wouldn't see a prime matchup between the two going much differently than the first one, although it'd probably be at least slightly more aesthetically pleasing.

If all anyone ever does is mention how a fighter is old what,s the point of boxing. now I do it once in a while but Hopkins was going from between 2-3 0r 5 on the pFp list at the time. I'm sure if I was I might wanna at least send a card home or something.:hey

    No.

I'm surprised this is split. Bernard made the first fight a very boring one....Boxing is about entertainment and he did anything but entertain. Definetely undeserving.

no he doesn't deserve a rematch because he is a big mouth sook and can't come to terms that he was beat by a white man.

does deserve to even shine calzaghes shoes.

but it would be great to see a rematch and hopkins get a beating again. although it would not be a very exciting fight.

Yes he does deserve one. Not as much as Dawson deserves a crack at JC though.

No absolutely not, considering the constant whining during the fight and disrespect to Calzaghe after the fight. He shoot himself in the foot.

Calzaghe has never looked so bad- if he's not going to fight Hopkins, what worthy challenge is out there?
Chad Dawson? Dawson just beat Tarver but . . . Hopkins already beat Tarver worse.

Calzaghe knows that if he fights Hopkins there is a very good chance he will lose a decision, and quite frankly, I think he is intimidated by Hopkins, and is uncomfortable being in the same room with him.
