    Keep in mind.

Hopkins was doing his best Usain Bolt impersonation for 12 rounds straight.

    This.

He is a human being fighting at the same weight class, both were champions. He shouldn't be given some medal of honor for doing that. However, at 50 years old he obviously deserved a medal of honor for being at that level.

He was never going to win by trying to switch tactics and out fight Kovalev. He hasn't KO'ed anyone in over a decade and at his advanced age the work rate required would have seen him gas and get KO'ed.

So yes he deserves props, he took on the best opponent available instead of hanging on to his title against weaker opponents.

He'd deserve that award if he did some VADA testing.

Ask Floyd this same question. He should get a ton of credit. He could've easily avoided Kov and no one would've said anything.

He gets props for 3 reasons:
    1) fighting the best
    2) being 49 years old
    3) surviving 12 rounds (although I believe Kovalev allowed him to)

Had he not been weary of Kovalev's power, I think he would've took more risks. But he played it too safe and paid the price. I give him a ton of credit, because without giving these guys credit at the very least, where's the incentive to fight the best?
