I feel the exact same way about my favourite fighters Selfkill. Fortunately, I've never seen Pacman or Marquez or B-Hop badly beaten, but when Roy Jones was sparked by Tarver and Johnson I felt awful, same after the second Peter-Toney fight, and Junior Jones v MAB.
The hardest fight I ever watched was Marciano - Louis. Even though I was born 30+ years after that fight, it wrenched my gut watching the heavy handed Rocky pound Joe through the ropes. Marciano felt aweful after the fight and was almost in tears. He said in the post fight interview "If Joe Louis was in his prime theres no way I would be getting a title shot next year." He then thanked Joe and graciously aided Joe in exiting the ring before leaving himself. Another fight I dont like watching is Holmes - Cobb, I dont blame Howard one bit for being disgusted with the referee and the boxing commission for letting that fight go past round 11.
Barrera-Pac was one of the most hurtful experiances watching a fight, but I'm not sure it was even as bad as this. Margarito took unbelievable shots, and you just knew it was a matter of time. Barrera got a beating, but he wasn't taking the kind of shots Margarito did tonight, but I felt like sick for about a good week after that fight too. It hurts a great deal when my favorite fighters lose, it has nothing to do with hero worship. I just care about them.
it sucks but what can ya do...i was depressed when malignaggi lost both his fights...esp his laast one....I think the whole cheating thing is a bit worse for margo
No, it's never that serious for me. I get disappointed, maybe a little bit down that night, like my team got eliminated from the playoffs, but it doesn't affect me that much. I have very few favorite fighters, hardly anyone I root for 100% of the time. Usually I just root for fighters based on potential matchups a win by that fighter will create. It's more of a downer when the guy loses, and you know his career (at the top level) is over. Mijares is still pretty young, so he has time to bounce back. Not sure about Margarito and his future though. He's had a long career with a lot of mileage for a 30 year old.
he got caught cheating...whether he did it in any other fights is up for debate...the guy cheated...PERIOD...therefor he is a cheater
That isn't the question I'm asking. In the event, Mayweather came out of retirement and got blitzed by a fellow 147lb fighter, how would you feel?
gutted after hatton-mayweather. :-( but it also made me appreciate how good mayweather is. u learn to get over it. :yep
Are you actually a stupid moron? Margo took direct shots that would have leveled any other WW in the world, and he did it for 8 rounds. You're as a$$, boy.
I would say he was a dumbass for not taking a tune-up first and probably be down for a couple of days.
