Your body and brain spares you from the immediate pain. Some report headaches AFTER the KO. There are also long term issues. Those that get KO'd, has an increase chance to be KO'd again. This is the Glass Jaw syndrome. Take RJJ. He actually have shown great chin early in his career. Age and previous KO has caught with him. The more serious pain would be the increase chances of early dementia and Alzheimers (see Frazier and Bowe). Or more commonly known as "Punch Drunk." Not pretty, actually very sad.
And how is a ten year old killing his little sister with his father's gun over the Playstation, "protecting your family"?
I got ko'd from behind, punch to the back of the head once, cheap shot. After I realised what happened I wanted a one on one so waited outside the club but couldn't remember for the life of me who did it. Didn't hurt at all though
Body shot KOs are really bad, especially to the solar plexus. My first and only street fight happened in 4th grade; the guy boxed and nailed me in the solar plexus and I doubled over in pain helpless. He thankfully didn't continue the ass whuppin and was sorry enough for be to be cool with me and stand up for me lol. The other bodyshot KO I felt was my first time sparring. I sparred some cocky ******* who played football and also claimed he trained at his father's boxing gym for a few years. He caught me with a shot I never saw to the gut and I went to my knees after a few seconds when the pain set in. The girl(daughter of the gym owner who was an amateur fighter) overseeing the sparring kept asking me if I went down because of my ankle and all I could do was tap my belly. After a minute we continued but we had to stop it because he was an ******* who kept showing off(we were supposed to be using jabs only until he hit me with a hook and also attacked me when my headgear was turned over my eyes) I hurt him to the body and nearly ran him out of the ring chasing him in anger. The closest I ever came to a KO was actually during a Wing Chun kungfu class. I was sparring the instructor's star pupil as a beginner. He was a former Navy seal and not very far from certification as an instructor. He was also very rusty and all I did was aggressively rush him with chain punches that scored repeatedly as I simply powered into him. I was making him look bad and the instructor took him aside yelling at him saying he was much better than that. When we started again he sidestepped me, deflected my punch and landed a shot right on the temple. I staggered in place and my legs were wobbly and the instructor started yelling "Stop, Stop!" My head hurt all day afterwards and my ears rang. The punch momentarily disrupted my equilibrium. Getting a front kick to the stomach really sucks too lol
Interestingly subjects like this come up but when you ask about peoples fight experience on here they start talking about how they have had some full contact karate fight or something similar. very strange.
KOs can happen in any full contact striking competition and not just boxing. It's nice to cull all those experiences to contribute to the thread. Just so happens there are many people who've had experiences in disciplines other than just boxing.
Nope as a featherweight I sparred mostly with heavyweights and only been stopped by a bodyshot, an uppercut where I blacked out while still on my feet, and a barrage of punches when I was about 17 by a veteran with 40 something fights, but never ko'd and only against heavyweights, but I've stopped them too, breaking their nose and dislocating jaws. Body shots are the worst. When your trading bombs with guys that hover over you and outweigh you by 50 or more pounds you'd better learn to land some bodyshots and block some of those bombs because they gonna feel like mule kicks and even after you block them they're still going to hurt like a motha****a and throw you several feet back so you gotta stay on your toes. If I ever got ko'd I'll let you know haha.
I got dropped in sparring once, got up, finished the round fighting like hell with my partner, and to this day cant remember getting knocked down or anything else until taking my gloves and wraps off (the only reason I even know this is because I was told by other people in the gym... I walked out of the gym and couldnt remember where I lived or who my family was. Over the next few hours everything came back to me and I was left with a headache and a sore jaw. But at the time I dont know if it hurt cause I cant remember it... A couple of years later I was reading a story about Holyfield in the amateurs. He got dropped, got up and fought on to win the fight. He went home and was laying on the couch when his mom got home from work asking him how he did in the tournament. He cried saying the coach wouldnt let him box. Holy's mom called the coach to complain about him not letting her son box and the coach said "what the hell are you talking about, he boxed and won!"
Ive been punched in the face a bunch of times and i cant remeber any of them hurting. I just remeber the surprise of getting hit and my head snapping back which dose Then takes a moment for my eyes to get adjusted. Ive been choked and that feels lucid getting punched inthe gut hurts like ****. The chest feels like your gonna die if you cant breath. But the worst is getting your knees bucked in . But it all usually hurts the next day when u touch the bruses
I didn't misunderstand. If you've ever been to the inner cities of America, you'll understand fist fights are as old fashioned as listening to Sinatra. Talking **** to some gangsters here is like pleading for a bullet to the head.
In my experience no it didnt hurt at all , I was caught with a huge right to the chin while sparring with a pro middleweight - never saw the shot coming and was totally unaware of how I came to be on my knees in the middle of the ring with the trainers and lads in the ring calling my name and asking if I was ok :good turns out as soon as the shot landed I dropped to both knees with my head tilted back and was saved from going over face first by the guy I was sparring with - I have no recollection of any of it - thats how clean a KO it was. Ive been dropped with a left to the solar plexus before and that pain and the panic of not being able to breathe was so bad it still makes me feel dodgy just thinking about it. BTW - I am not chinny - I took a few liberties and disrespected a proffesional fighter in what was meant to be some light sparring - he showed me the error of my ways and highlighted the fact that I am not the hardman I thought I was . Theres a valuable lesson I learned that day .
