He looks flabby as **** in the weigh-in photo, did he ever look like that before? He looks like he got a beer belly. surely it's not good, either he is in shape and runs to a points win...or he stands his ground and gets hit on that egg chin and knocked the **** out.
He looks often out of shape and maybe he was out of shape in many fight but he fought bum's in the last year's so it doesn't matter Gomez is very talented but very lazy
I hope Mccall makes a statement tomorrow and knocks Gomez the **** out, next stop the winner of Peter/Mccall.
and mccall looks pretty good and fit...but thats how i used 2 look at fighters when i was 12 and they'd get smashed...
There's a difference between being in shape and being in boxing shape. Simply looking fit doesn't mean ****. Everybody thought Lacy was gonna blow through Calzaghe because he looked good, but then look what happened. That said, I thought McCall would win BEFORE these pics, and I still think so.
mccall is old and looks damn good, gomes had to bulk up from cruiser, hes never been ripped at heavy but he can still dance for 12 rounds so i doubt hes out of shape
I agree, Larry Holmes never looked very good around the waist band also, J.C. Gomez doesn't have a flat tummy so what? It's just their physiognomy but has anyone noticed where do Gomez' shoulders stand compared to Oliver's? That should give him a huge advantage in the jab department.
No, it is not just his "physiognomy" (?); Gomez was absolutely ripped at 190. At 228 pounds he is overweight, and while he may still outjab and beat ol' Oliver, Gomez again shows no seriousness about his career or respect for the sport. If he had stayed at Cruiser he could have maybe unified. At close to 230 he'll never accomplish anything. Fact is, he's lazy.
Yes, he looked "in shape" as a Cruiserweight but he's 6' 3 1/2'' and now is 34 years old ( 27 years old in last Cruiser fight in November 2001). So let's admit that his physical morphology is not that acceptable at 228 pounds but still, in his last 7 fights ( since August 2004 till June 2007) he was between 231 and 222 lbs, went from 213 lbs against Sam to 228 lbs against Diaz but was inactive for 12 months in the US (from Sept. 2003 till Aug. 2004). Gomez (vs Diaz in Aug. 2004) - 228 lbs Gomez (vs Defiagbon in Jan. 2005) - 221 lbs Gomez (vs Arias in May 2005) - 229 lbs Gomez (vs McCall in Oct. 2005) - 222 lbs / McCall 238 lbs 1 year suspension Gomez (vs Frank in Dec. 2006) - 231 lbs Gomez (vs Rodrigues in Feb. 2007) - 226 lbs Gomez (vs Bakhtov in Jun. 2007) - 222 lbs Gomez lowest weights above 200 lbs were: 208 lbs ( vs Cole, August 2001 - back to 189 lbs vs Aurino, November 2001), 213 lbs ( vs Sam, September 2003), 216 lbs ( vs Murphy, March 2002), 222 lbs ( vs Frank, August 2002).
