This is from an ESPN story: Loew said one of the fights that interests him is Pavlik facing Chad Dawson, one of the top light heavyweights. Dawson, an interim titleholder, is scheduled to face titlist Jean Pascal on Aug. 14. "I think Chad Dawson and Kelly Pavlik would be a very interesting fight. Chad is a great kid and fighter," Loew said. "I think that would be a great fight for him and Kelly. Maybe we'll be sitting ringside for Pascal-Dawson." ______ Now, in fairness, the article also states that Pavlik is planning to take a tuneup this fall before advancing to another big fight. Still, shouldn't someone be paying attention to the types of guys who give Pavlik the most trouble? The worst part is that, if he gets past Pascal, Dawson would jump at the fight to build his profile.
Pavlik MIGHT have a chance at beating Dawson if he can go back to throwing 100 punches a round. Dawson has a tendency to just cover up and not do anything if he's under fire, and that tendency might give Pavlik a chance.
That's true, but it's difficult for me to imagine that the guy who won 10 rounds from Adamek would struggle against Pavlik. KP is not in TA's league, and I suspect Dawson has learned a lesson about standing in place against a swarmer. If Pavlik had better footspeed and ability to pivot I'd give him a better shot, but he's simply too ponderous. He's never attained that kind of workrate against guys who give him movement. Pascal, fighting in Montreal, has a much better chance to take Dawson's '0', imo.
Loew is trying to get as much money out of Pavlik as he can. No top fighter will ever hire that dildo again.
I agree with you, but I'm just playing devil's advocate here. A Librado Andrade or Adrian Diaconu type would make a lot more sense at first.
Hahahahahahaha... BWAHAHA... Dawson easily dismantled a far superior and bigger guy in Adamek. Pavlik would be slashed up and stopped after 8 rounds.
Dawson vs Pavlik is a total mismatch, especially when your only tactic is to "double the jab." They're three or four classes apart.
Pavlik can only maintain a workrate in the face of a stationary target. In the face of Dawson's speed, he's just a sitting duck. Chad will eat him alive. Add to that the fact that Dawson is the bigger man.... it'll be a one sided ass whuppin.
Dawson is a good fight for Pavlik, stylistically. That said, the size difference here would be far too much. Pavlik should try fighting a catchweight around 164lbs before moving up to the super middleweight division. If he jumps to light heavy, he has very little chance.
