Clearly the most durable multidivision chin in the history of boxing. All time great skills as well

The only reason Chuvalos chin was not shattered by George Foreman was because the ref didnt allow it, the guy didnt last 5 minutes in the fight, -never being stopped , after going up 5 weight classes as a midget at HW is far better proved beard

And I'm sure Toney would have been hurt more often if he had a penchant for blocking punches with his face the way Chuvalo did.

Its impossible to pin down - you can have one guy may have had 80 tough fights and he'll be as bright as a button - then you'll have a guy who peaked early , maybe a former olympian so he was handled well early on - and after 30 odd fights his eyes are rolling and can barely speak.

maybe JT would be slurring his speech anyway even if he'd never laced them up befpre ?

    who knows .

I haven't read the entire thread so apologies if I'm repeating. I'd have to put Toney's chin right at the very top when it comes to durability. I'd only place McCall above him but then, if we're giving JT extra points for being a former MW facing HW's and taking all they've got then I'd have to give him the edge over iron beard Ollie.

On a serious note, it's the strength of Toney's whiskers that make me fear for him. It's normally true that the last thing a boxer loses is his punch, but for Toney it's his chin, and something that's been a strength throughout his career could prove to be a serious weakness because he could end up going on far too long and absorbing beatings...

"- To my knowledge, has only been properly knocked down twice, once to Reggie Johnson at mw and once to Samuel Peter at hw. There was the semi-KD against Roy Jones, but that was purely a balance thing plus Toney didn't actually hit the canvas, just touched down and was forced to take a count"

:lol: what kind of biased **** is that, there are no semi knock downs, that was as legit as a knock down comes, he got hit with a counter while trying to show off. Yeah his chin is still good and he was off balance but its not no ****ing "semi knockdown"

that is only speculation though, its right up there with

    "that punch wouldve KOed anyone"

the FACT is that toney was a far lighter figher in his prime than chuvalo and he took punches of huge men , modern day 250+ heavies

Another fact is that James always lasted out the fighter

and finally toney even beat the dreaded huge quick weigh loss, something known for wrecking mandibles , and in that fight he took shot after shot

Toneys chin got wipped by the fastest and heaviest guys out there and was never dented

foreman was smarter than given credit for too, he went to the body a lot which is what you do with someone with an iron chin but **** defense, like tito v mayorga. He hurt him pretty bad in the corner there with those body shots

which further to the point proves how tough toneys body is too, so much fat and he stands right there goes the distance and take the shots
