When compiling a top 25 list, should wilde be present?

Based on the criteria of being the greatest boxer in a traditional division?

He also amassed 100 knockouts in his career losing only 4 times.

    Thoughts?

    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Wilde[/ame]

"He had a record of 137 wins, 4 losses, 2 draws and 8 no-decisions, with 100 wins by knockout, which makes him one of the most prolific knockout winners of all time, according to Ring Magazine, publication which also named him the 3rd greatest puncher of all time in 2003.

In 1990, Wilde was elected into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame as a member of that institution's original class. In 1992 he was also inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame and one of his prize winning belts is part of the organisation's display."

the little Ghost IS ONE of the GREATEST forsure, but I've never been able to list fighters,

it's never 100% accurate and in the whole history of boxing; there's just too many greats, known & unknown...

some can be thought of as Elite fighters and many, many as GREATS, and again many more as Great...
BUT DAMN HARD TO PLACE MOST ABOVE THE OTHER - Too Many Great fighters, Top Men are Top Men!!!

    WILDE WAS A DEFO GREAT!

I don't think he's the greatest Welsh fighter of all time, never mind British.

Not top 25 for me, by any manner of means. Top 50.

No. I think he was superb, but i'd pick Canto, Lynch and Wolgast to beat him out of the really great ones. He was probably the greatest though.

The greatest isn't always the best. For example, let's say you hold Calzaghe as the greatest SMW of all time based upon what he achieved. Perfectly reasonable point of view given the defences etc. But is he really better than Roy Jones?

Jack Britton is my #2 all time at WW, but I don't think he would beat Sugar Ray Leonard. If McGovern is #1 at BW based on that spectacular run, I can still pick Zarate to beat him. And so on and so forth.

so you separate accomplishment/resume with h2h ability? fair enough.

as the greatest Flyweight of all time do you not think that alone warrants a place amongst the elite?

No. I rate fighters based upon how good they were and what they did, not whether they were the greatest in their own division. Wilde's resume is not equal to the spots people try to rate him in. So far the best argument i've seen for a top 20 ranking is that we don't know much about his competition and it may have been amazing. Which is no argument at all, of course.

I wouldn't find it difficult to find 25 fighters I could happily rank above him, bet I could find 35 I'd be happy to.
