Not many people know he used to hit as hard as hell, to the point that he kept breaking his hands and they were greatly weakened and kept rebreaking, so he adopted a new style of high volume slappy punching, saving the hard shots for special occasions like finishing or just never using hard shots because of fear of hand breakage. But anyway the high volume method seems really effective because if the fight ever went the distance you can practically guarantee a points win victory. Due to so many landed shots.
Well, he certainly adapted himself remakably well didn't he? If his hands were stronger, just a little, he may have really put a hurtin' on the old racist faker Hopkins.
They took his power away(Which wasn't inconsiderable in his prime, he was hurting the very durable Chris Eubank regularly). So, no, he was hindered, forced to entirely adapt his style and use an approach that dictated consistent outpointing, not being able to count on any damage. Hard way to fight, when you can't keep your opponent honest. The best alternative is to confuse and cow him, but it's the hardest thing to do to a world class fighter. It's what made him special.
but i do think he did keep them honest here and there...everyonce in awhile you would see him actually turning the fist over...torquing his hips into shots. He did it with Lacy...we would slap him..but everyone in awhile when lacy would really try to walk in hard he would give him something to make him think twice.
