I don't think so regarding one punch force, but his precision and speed, coupled with his power makes him at least as effective.

I'd put his power very comparable to Tyson, but I think Foreman and Shavers are in a higher bracket for one punch power.

 

I'd say it's right up there witht the best of them. Louis may have been the best power puncher of them all due to his delivery. His punches were short and fast yet devestating. Foreman in comparison was more of a clubber...a big strong free swinging monster that clubbed you to death...you could see the shots coming. Louis' punches often came unannounced....Until they landed that is and you came to later. That's a power puncher personified....speed, precision and technique all in one. Louis was that. It's not always about size and strength....they help but it's often more than that. Look at Earnie Shavers for example. He wasn't huge but he could knock a brick wall down. That's power.

 

His power came from fast, accurate flurries of shots which overwhelmed his foes, rather than a ton of force packed into one punch... So my answer is no.

In regards to size, he's taller and longer than Tyson, and pretty much exactly the same size as Shavers. Does anyone say those guys can't punch because they were too small?

weight of big heavyweights as Foreman, Liston,being too big for a Joe Louis, raises my blood pressure to the max. It is all nonsense that Joe Louis was too small for the bigger boys today. Utter garbage... Joe Louis had speed and leverage which equals power. This nonsense that a larger slower George Foreman was a more dangerous puncher than Louis is sheer poppycock. Of course Foreman had a powerful punch , but a Louis with
twice the hand speed and much more precise combinations would beat Foreman or any of today's dreadnaughts to the punch everytime and as a physician who saw the young Louis ko his opponents said. " the human body was not built to withstand a Louis onslaught ", and I and all of the great Joe Louis's victims would agree with the Dr...Speed kills as Louis, Robinson, Dempsey ,Tyson, Ike Williams have proved time and again...

 

Weight helps wear down your opponent, good for infighting and general manhandling, all of which can help the possessor stop an opponent. But for pure KO power, it seems to mean less somewhere around 210 pounds, depending on the fighters build.

 

Imagine a prime Joe Louis today? He'd be champ for another 12 years.

 

Anyone in boxing knows the devastating effect of combinations, and no boxer did it better than Joe, the concussive effect is terrible and few recover without being on ***** street, Joe at his weight could ko anyone in his era or now.

I think it was Walcott who said something like "Louis could take you out with combinations where Marciano threw every shot like someone throws a baseball so with respect to Joe I'd have to say Marciano threw the harder single punch" - I'm paraphrasing there but it was something like that - but then again if you asked Paulino Uzcudun he might have a different slant on that haha
