Does anyone think Johnson looks dazed, or in need of the ropes for support in this photo? This content is protected
Sorry its so tiny perhaps the film of the fight will give a better opportunity for opinion? This content is protected
Guys .. with 99% probability Johnson was carrying him for the cameras as his endless dominance showed .. then he was fought and half slipped half went down and knew he should not be there .. the dramatic ending was compounded by Ketchel's reckless going for the kill anaginst a Johnson far more pissed the hurt ..
Johnson balance was so great after being knocked down, that he fell down again after throwing the final punches to finish Ketchel. That tends to happen when you hit on the back/ side of the head...if you watch boxing you'd see it enough. What we have here is a poster being so concurred that a crude middle weight could not only floor Johnson, but leave him dazed according to the press at ringside and those who interviewed him. Primary sources at ring side, who saw it and Johnson afterward. Not taking their words is asinine and rejecting the best possible people to judge the topic. We all ask for firsthand primary sources, here, correct? Well when the OP doubts it, and facts are produced, a thread like this pops up. Suggested reading from the source: https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1909/10/17/101040198.pdf WhiIe do think Ketchel could hit hard for his weight, he's not blowing away heavyweights. Did he ever? In fact I think modern light heavyweights like Kovalev, Beteirbev, and Bivol hit harder than Ketchel, and none of these guys hit has hard as some of the best heavies around today.
Even the MMA would not have this match. Ketchel did zero at heavyweight. Would the MMA match a heavyweight vs a crude middle who did nada at heavyweight? Not a chance. Johnson's skill level looks fine. His jab looks good, but how could you miss Ketchel who on film looks about a poor as possible on defense. Yet the crude MMA like swinger managed to catch Johnson twice. Once marking him up visibly the second time flooring him.
No. It's not that good tho similar in that he is always trying to set up the home run punch. He's just really transparent about it.
