I suppose, marginally, but mainly because AJ said he wanted the rematch - and then swerved it.
It tells me that both AJ and his handlers view a second defeat to Dubois as a likely outcome and it's better to 'move ' on to whatever different fight they have in mind before time runs out on Joshuas ticking retirement clock

That's an excellent question for Mister Rematch himself, Eddie Hearn.

Fighting Dubois again straight away would have just been plain suicide and unless Dubois gets war torn real soon, Joshua and Hearn will continue to avoid him like the plague.

Nah. He soundly got his ass kicked. There was no need for a rematch. Nonsensical rematch clog up the sport.

Does AJ deserve the rematch? Not too many guys get blasted out like AJ and get the rematch. I've seen fights closer than that without any knock downs and people will be against the rematch. I guess it all depends on what side of the fence you stand. If it's a close fight that your guy won, people will be against it. If your guy loses, fans will cry bs if a rematch doesn't happen. You are diffrent. You don't like AJ and you just want to see him get sparked again. evil man you are. LOL

Huh? Ducking an immediate rematch doesn't mean you're ducking the rematch and the plan is to still rematch Dubois. The Dosser went into an immediate rematch after Belly violated him and beat the soul out of his body and all that happened was he was on the receiving end of an even more biblical shellacking and he's only won 1 fight since, or 1 in his last 5

Big Joe Joyce went into an immediate rematch with Big Bang and he ended up getting flattened on his face

AJ fought a terrible fight against Dubois. Like the real AJ didn't even show up for whatever reason. And I believe it's a fight he can win with the right tactics and game plan and if Dubois beats J-Park I suspect we might see that fight next or sometime this year.

    Not at all.

I know how this sound but he deserve for "one duck" after all this years. Almost all Hw got decision like this. Joshua and Hearn dont choose "easy way" in his carrer.
    1. They took Martin fight and nobody know where Charles maximum is. Yes thats sound pretty funny right now but belive me there was many people on Polish boxing site who thinks Charles was favorite and he will win... Even Fury talk that ****
    2. They took Wladimir Klitschko mega fight. Reward was massive but they just repair what Fury done bad. That was MASSIVE RISK. Massive. Wladimir even if was older got size, exp, power and was class champion with ambition.
    3. They took all hard mandatory fight. Povetkin for example.
    4. When he lost to Ruiz more than half people from boxing suggest him to avoid reematch. He took it.
    5. He took Usyk without many talking. He can said Ukrainian man is not known well and give him WBO. Yes people will be complain but end of the day many boxers than this. Even biggest star of boxing last years Alvarez. And they live fine.
    6. Reematch with Usyk- same story as Ruiz 2 fight.
    7. Even Dubois fight was not neccesary. He is not champion. He dont have to take it.

Soo when he lost in hard way and there is only poor chance that he can change quick smth to win why he should end his carrer by another whoop and dont take chance like any other to avoid that kind of fight?

Fury avoid Klitschko. Wilder done nothing and avoid even official pretenent.

Im not mad at him. That just show me that he is not at such a good place that I thought. Thats all. But first fight show me this aswell.

AJ did actually fight Dubois already so this isn’t your outright duck.

If he rematched too soon, he’d more than likely get thumped again - driving a stake into the heart of his career (and psyche) altogether.

Perhaps also, it’s not just about timing, with a Dubois rematch at any time putting paid to his career.

Aside from the contractual clause obligation, it can be argued that he otherwise doesn’t deserve the rematch at this point in time due to the emphatic outcome of the first fight.

    Excellent point.

he could accept losing to Usyk because AJ knew he is a special fighter, AJ believes deep down that he is levels above Dubois and it wasn’t a punch out of nowhere like the Ruiz fight.

I don't think the term 'ducking' applies to rematches for fights you lost.

AJ doesn’t deal with hard hitting pressure fighters very well and Dubois came in with the perfect gameplan, even at AJs best I can’t see him lasting past six against that version of Dubois

After all the talk of AJ being an old school fighter by Matchroom he swerved the rematch not a good look but understandable given the potential Fury fight

In every defeat he has always rematched them straight after. It was going to be no different against Dubois but he bottled it. No ifs, buts or maybes, straight bottle job.

Yep I agree and immediate rematch usually is not a good idea especially when somebody has been KO’d or dominated. I get it if it is a close fight to have an immediate rematch but coming off a beat down most fighters need a confidence booster.

Yeah, especially after suffering back to back losses 2 years earlier and it would be absolutely devastating to your career to do so again
