Does Khan really deserve the respect he's getting?

The only thing the Alvarez fight proved is that Khan is prepared to get knocked out for $6 million. If that is worthy of respect then i guess 99% of all professional boxers should get the same level of respect.

He risked only his health. His advisers knew that even in defeat he could claim victory due to him taking on the incredible challenge of moving up 2 weight divisions. Of course he only moved up 1 weight division and 1 pound but this will not be mentioned by his team or fans now they are attempting to defend his reputation.

Khan is getting respect for this, really?

It was a calculated move just as his previous fights recently were calculated to minimise risk by facing non punchers. He was simply going for a big payday.

I'd happily jump up and face a guy far bigger than Canelo and get sparked out for the kind of money Khan made, should I get respect for that? Cashing out isn't something to be respected, Khan was in a win, win situation. Even with this loss, is the idea of Khan/Brook, another good payday, any less interesting to the fans, answer no, so in reality Khan had nothing to lose.

People are giving out respect far too easily if Khan is being respected for this, but then again we live in a generation where you get respect and fame for making a *** tape so it shouldn't be that surprising.

guy was prime at L/LW to be fair.

its not boring zzz to move up 2. it IS boring zzz for the OP to be facing someone from lwer divisions tohugh I will grant you that. Canelo is overrated until he faces 3g.

khans problem is that he can only pull this trick so many times - getting serially beat up on moving up will be zzzz and lead to him becoming a division hopping journeyman.

The Donald is giving Khan some respect, will make exception for Khan in his US moozie ban. So he can he can have his glass shattered again in Vegas, no worries Amir. Not sure the extended Khan family will be allowed to watch live though. Maybe a blessing. :yep

He deserves a lot of respect. Understand he's taking on an elite fighter who is two weight classes bigger than him and comes into fight night near 180lbs.
It's almost brainless to make this big of a move. No one else in boxing does it.

No welterweight would take a fight with Canelo, otherwise you would have seen them calling him out and being persistent like Khan.
Also, they don't fight eachother let alone fight a P4P fighter who came in at 180lbs.

Answer to the thread title, does canelo deserve the adulation he is getting for knocking out a smaller guy whilst avoiding (at all costs) his mandatory MW contender ? Seems cowardly & not in keeping generaly with the fantastic tough brave mexican fighters ...El no*****
