Don't know why you'd 'gag' at a loss to Sergei who is certainly not worse than Shufford or Ettiene (who had his moments in the late 90's early 00's). Agreed that Lamon was strictly B level who capitalized on a bizzare performance by Wlad, but Lyakovich is/was no bum. He'll likely make noise in this division yet given he's only 32. Who knows with Lamon, if his vision is good he could beat some fringe guys yet.
Actually he has a alot left if he's smart enough to dump Mcgirt and get a good trainer. Someone like freddie roach
For lamon brewster to come back he is going to have to get that hunger back of wanting to be a champion again. After his eye surgery you could tell that he does not have that hunger anymore. Especially after the Wladimir fight where he did not want to come for or force anything. He just sat back and took every shot that Wladimir had to offer till he quit in the corner. The main reason for him quitting in the corner and his poor performace was because he is nervous about causing even more damage to that eye. Anyone who is scarred to hurt themselves in the ring does not belong there. He needs to really hang the gloves up and leave with his health. Just words.
Lamon still has gas left in the tank. Not excusing his loss one bit but i've learned one thing in the last few years. Buddy Mcgirt in your corner for the big fight = Bad. Especially if you're a slugger. mcgirt is a good trainer for a defensive fighter such as winky wright , I feel he'd do wonders with wright but any slugger , Buddy just isn't the one. plus he does NOTHING to motivate his fighter. if his fighter is losing , unlike someone like Manny steward who will do all he can to calm his fighter down and tell him what is necessary to turn the tide, buddy will just demotivate you and state the obvious ... "you're losing man, if you take more punishment imma stop it" which is just demoralizing to hear from your corner if you're looking across at wlad. My whole point in this rant. if Lamon is dedicated and gets the right training and fights often, he'll work his way back up to the point where we'd want to see a wlad vs Brewster rubber match. right now he still has work to do but at least he took the right first step in dumping Mcgirt. think about this anyway, how many fights did brewster win with Buddy in his corner? Again this is in no way taking anything away from wlad or making an excuse just a fact. An in-shape Brewster with the right trainer can make Klit /Brewster III an epic fight.
The main worry I have there is that we have two fighters with eye issues and tons of inactivity between them.
He may have it in him for one last hurrah, but he's going to have to make some upsets to get back on track.
