Regardless what's happening, Lampley will bring up something bad about Lewis in the ring. Someone throws a haymaker..."Looks like the punch that sent you on your ass Lennox" Someone gets KO'd..."That's almost as bad as what Rahman did to you Lennox. Almost." Someone's doing bad..."Looks like Lennox did in that one fight where he sucked real hard & was a lazy piece of sh!t" Anyone else find it hilarious?
:rofl I noticed that too. I remember more than one occasion when something was going on in the ring and Lampley would bring up Lennox getting stopped by McCall or some ****. Lampley's just a dickhead. " Lennox.. this stoppage is very reminiscent of the stoppage McCall has over you, is it not? "
I think that he is just trying to get Lewis to give some insight into what that situation was like, when he experienced it.
I think Lampley likes Lewis well enough, in fact usually he praises him. However I think though Lewis is a decent commentator, he at times hasn't been confident enough to give his opinions without being prompted. I think Lampley brining up things from Lewis's career is just him trying to be a little more creative than just saying "Lennox what do you think?". Lampley does the same thing when talking with George Foreman or Emanuel Steward. Lampley basically leads the broascast, but he doesn't want it to sound that way. If he just asks questions of Lewis, or Merchant, or Harold Lederman its just him leading the broadcast, but if he makes a reference to something else in order to get someone to talk about something, its more like they're just having a conversation together. Its better television.
I think he likes Lewis, he has praises him (with all right) a lot of times also. I think he just want to bust Lennox´s balls a bit, between friends.
He did compare that lame ass wlad/sultan fight to a fight that lennox had with a russian (cant remember his name) but I went back and watched it & the fight was not boring at all, the guy just had a great chin.
