No he didn't. He didn't fight any of the WBA champions, who were also Ring Magazine #1 contenders. Politics (Don King) played a big role in the fights not materializing, and of course money, but I don't think anyone would say that Marvis Frazier was a better fighter than Greg Page.

The rematch was bull****. Holmes won that fight.

    The first fight was fair.

Just when I think there might be hope for ESB, a colossally imbecile thread pops up like this one.

course he was. ATG hands down. this thread fking sucks. you've got to be one of the most insecure posters on this forum, does it irk you to see black athletes being praised? I remember your first thread on ESB being "are all NFL/NBA athletes onsteroids?":rofl

so what. he was faster, more varied, and much much tougher

Prime Larry Holmes was a bad, bad Man. One of the greatest HWs to ever lace up the gloves. Only an idiot would say otherwise.

I can't see why not. Judging by his skills alone, he is ATG material. I think Larry Holmes is one of the most underrated heavy weight boxers.

No. Very good fighter, and tough, tougher than many realize. But not all time great. He also never fought Page, Dokes, or Coatzee, 3 guys most deserving during his time as champ. Cooney fight was big event, and big money, but not cause of Cooney's talent.

I consider Holmes as an ATG. Cooney doesn't get near the credit he desreves for taking prime Holmes into the 14th rnd. At the time , how many fighters could have done that to Holmes? Cooney is the only one I can think of. Here's to larry and Gerry! Cheers!

    erm... no.

Vita, Wlad, Adamek, Ibragimov and Haye are better than what the Holmes era had...

He's like GLen Johnson. a hal of fame fighter. But Holmes is not an ATG. He's just another Don King hype succes story

This is just another example of why people hate the Klitschko's and why they hope they lose.

Oh yeah? How you figure that? Drawing and getting dropped against Ray Austin? Beating an older then dirt Holyfield? Shannon the empty cannon Briggs? And the best fighter he fought he didnt even bother trying to win a round let alone win the fight?:patsch

90% of the title holders in the 80's would beat the **** out of him and actually knock him out and not just jab for a whole 12 rounds scared that the little midget might actually land a jab. Ibragimov doesnt see the 6th round against Holmes.
