No, I would say Chuvalo ad Quarry beat Holmes - Foreman Kos him and Ali is a better version all around.

Ellis , Bonavena and Bugner are at least 50/50.

Holmes cannot compare to Joe Frazier and he would wipe out Holmes in short order himself.

It’s a strong possibility. Though probably not something I’d favor him to do.

Frazier actually fought Chuvalo before the timeline nominated in the thread even began. He stipulates it starting in 1968 when Frazier won the title.

How on earth would Bugner (i'll just use him as the example) beat Holmes among others? I doubt he'd beat the Holmes that beat Ray Mercer let alone a decent version Holmes.

Same here. I don't see Ellis, Chuvalo, or Bonavena beating Holmes, .either.

I actually...no offense to the poster, find that pretty amusing.

Look at who beat those guys (their names are legion). So, the top 5 ATG (minimum) is going to get beat by THEM? They lost to all the top guys, again and again....

Somebody just isn't much of a Holmes fan, or maybe I'm too much of one (the latter is more likely lol)

Bonavena and Chuvalo in particular can get underrated and taken for granted but one can't favor them over Holmes. It's a huge call. I'd put Bugner around 7-1.

Chuvalo was a very good fighter...I still wonder if his claims that he was just waiting for Foreman to punch himself out were true or just pride talking. I remember one shot he took right before the stoppage was literally terrifying, amazing he survived some of those punches. But he was far from just a heavy bag, that's for sure.

I see al three of them losing UDs, all of them comfortable.

Chuvalo talked a bit of smack like most of them of course. His skills are oft overlooked and he actually had a bit about him. Very good fighter.

    :)

I'll grant that Frazier, most specifically FOTC Frazier, would probably win at least a decision over Larry.

Chuvalo and Quarry beating Holmes are downright laughable.

Ellis, Bonavena, and Bugner being 50-50s are laughable to.

I like @Balder but I too thought that was really reaching. No disrespect intended, B.

I stopped taking him seriously when he said Louis was “only” 37 against Marciano and that proved Rocky would beat him at his peak. Only so much stupidity and dishonesty I can take.

Agree. Only potential banana skins are :

Ali would be a close but clear win for Holmes in an unremarkable fight

Foreman - Good boxer nearly always beats a good puncher. Larry wins
