    I thought Merchant did box as a kid. As did a large percentage of the kids of his generation did.

    Larry was a BEAST, NBA. Even at 150 pounds, he was the fiercest hitting defensive back in N.Y. high school football. Good enough to get a full-ride scholarship to Oklahoma, the biggest powerhouse in the nation.

    Merchant knows his ****, but he is just unconventional and people can't stand that he's right.

    however it's obvious that at this age, he should retire.

    Merchant still comes across great if you read his interviews. Age has slowed his speaking, HBO should bring back the studio desk with experts (hosted by Costas or the NFL guy) at the big fights and let Merchant have his say there.
