Ok guys so Ive wondered how much fighters cash in on their legacy Say for example Anderson Silva fights Jones & gets KO'd then 2 Months later Hendo wipes the **** out of Jones therefore severely downgrading Silvas legacy. Sure Silva has made a reasonable amount of Money from the Jones fight but it means that his name is kind of tarnished, it will lack that invincible aura. So what you guys think. Is it worth protecting your legacy for future financial reasons or do you take a risky fight that could end your reign. Just remember Jones is young, theres a large oppurtunity for a losing streak :think I wonder who makes more in interviews or appearances RJJ or Calzaghe ?
There are a few factors to consider here. If Spider just wanted to safely cash-in, he could do it now. Then again, does he want to fight Jones, and if so, could he make more money fighting Jones than he could in say the next say 5 years if he didn't fight Jones? Legacy certainly doesn't have the same currency at the bank that cash does.
Safely cash in by fighting who, GSP. I'm not sure thats a safe fight. Im not sure how much they pay for athletes for appearances yet I did hear a rumour Lance Armstrong was offered a few hundred thousand to race in the Tour Down Under. I dont really think appearances or magazine interviews in the short term will even come lose to the Money Dana would be offering Silva/Jones to fight. In the long run retiring on a winning streak could be financially Positive. Im sure Calzaghe can demand a premium. If Silva loses, yes hes made some good coin but he would also want to string together a few wins via GSP & perhaps Weidman. He may end up retiring with his last 3 fights being loses, just like Liddell. Very true.
By 'safely cashing in' I meant he could actually retire now. It's an option for him. Hopefully an extremely unlikely one. By if he wanted to go out on top, undefeated in the UFC, he could just hang up the gloves now be forever forward known as the undefeated legend who got out on top.
