First of all, we're not talking about our opinions on the fight, but how it was perceived back then. The dude says it was widely perceived that Louis won - which is false, and I proved it. I forgot to add the decision was booed. Second of all, boxing newspapers are way more reliable source of opinion than the boxing forum where so many people DKSAB. Third of all, a pot calling a kettle sneaky
Well that's the point isn't it. The people at ring side couldn't agree who won, so they had a rematch and Louis won by ko. You never watched the fight though, so you treating it as a fight he should have lost is mental.
In all honesty I think so. I think he won the Hagler fight despite people calling it "underdog bias" who I think are people who don't like SRL. Beating Hearns as the underdog in such dramatic fashion and getting the revenge victory by making Duran quit is probably the go to top 3, especially when these boxers are all so elite of the elite especially on film, it's hard to ignore. Don't forget his 4th win stopping Benitez, either. Really incredible for such a "matinee idol" type fighter
I'll go one better...the Hearns fight was a quick stoppage when Tommy was up on the cards. Still, for all the asterixes, there were great wins.
Hey, what about the real Sugar Ray...Robinson? Armstrong, LaMotta, Basilio, Gavilan, Turpin, Olson, Fulmer, Graziano, Zivic... Take your pick!
I'd say Manny Pacquiao compares favourably - TKO11 Marco Antonio Barrera, TKO10 Erik Morales, TKO3 Erik Morales, UD12 Marco Antonio Barrera, SD12 Juan Manuel Marquez, TKO8 Oscar De La Hoya, TKO12 Miguel Cotto, UD12 Antonio Margarito, UD12 Shane Mosley, MD12 Juan Manuel Marquez & SD12 Keith Thurman. It's acknowledged that several of those guys were past their best but in some cases that wasn't apparent until Manny put it on them.
Recent examples of boxers with 3 great wins Dimitri Bivol Canelo Alvarez, unified/lineal Super Middleweight champion. 57-1 p4p number 1 Gilberto Ramirez, 44-0, current unified Cruiserweight champion Arthur Beterbiev, 21-0, undisputed Light Heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield Mike Tyson, 45-1, unified Heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe, Riddick Bowe, 34-0, unified/lineal Heavyweight champion George Foreman, 69-2, later would win the lineal/unified Heavyweight championship. All Hall of Famers
Yes Like you said Ali is 2nd Charles has Joe Louis on his reume but obviously that wasnt the same Joe Louis.
This, maybe. Joe beat Ali. Ali beat George. George beat Joe. Those are what I can think of off the top of my head that might compare. Best era.
