no,, he did not move well at all in this fight. He looked flat.. I think the Hearns rematch took a lot out of him, and after that year off in 1990 he really was not that great anymore..
No I can't see it .By the Norris fight he'd lost so much ,he'd be nomatch for Hagler .Either a late stoppage or wide points win for Marvin.
I just flicked through Leonard's autobiography (which is a decent read) for the Norris chapter and Leonard says he was dropped in sparring by a welterweight named Michael Ward preparing for the fight. He says he knew then that his reflexes were not what they used to be. He had simply stepped out of his time. I don't think the '91 Leonard had the requisite speed or movement anymore to beat '87 Hagler. Age and inactivity had finally caught up with him. The Leonard of the third fight with Duran might have beaten '87 Hagler though. Leonard moved surprisingly well in that fight.
Common sense says no. The only poster who would say yes is Rooster, but he's delusional. Close thread
I've never watched this fight in it's entirety. I saw Ray try to lure Norris in a bunch of times but he actually looked pretty hurt. How badly was it? The clip I watched had Ray looking pretty timid against the ropes. I picked Norris as the time to win. I just felt Leonard had avoided anyone with speed. I remember he said his strategy was to "chop him down like a tree". I just didn't think he'd get the chance. Leonard said in an interview that Norris was smaller but I thought Terry looked bigger and much more muscular.
I think the second Hearns fight really wore out Ray... He took a lot of punishment... He looked good against Duran stylistically, but Duran was also 38...
