Never much liked his act myself. Not only did he tell Meldrick Taylor he had to win the last round against Chavez when he clearly didn't, he then jumped up on the ring apron like and idiot during the knockdown and distracted Taylor enough to give Steele an excuse to stop the fight
He was at it when Honeyghan stopped Bumphus. To be fair it may have been an instance when a fighter actually hit another before the bell!
I met and hung out with Lou Duva once after a riot following a FNF show. Great guy. It was after the Demetrius Hopkins-Al "Speedy" Gonzales fight. I was writing for a boxing site. Lou thought I wrote for the newspapers. I tried to explain it to him. But I don't think he knew what the internet was. (LOL) Funny, nice guy though. Everyone was kind of frazzled. The crowd lost it, fights broke out, and we were all pelted with garbage as we tried to go back to the dressing room. He'd been in a few riots, though. (LOL)
He bravely endured all of that for absolutely nothing because of the ref. Letting him stand their for the remaining 2 seconds of the fight was not going to put him at any further risk
I’m fully aware of all that. I’m also aware that he rose at the count of six, nodded that he was ok and was seconds away from the final bell while being way ahead on the cards.
As I have mentioned before, I have been on the wrong end of the Duva temper (not, that I did not deserve it).
Yep. Some people act like context means nothing. Had that happened in round 7 sure I could see why people would defend the stoppage. 2 seconds left in the fight there is just no defense for. He was robbed.
He never ticked me off. His anger management moments were funny. Mayweather was right to drop the red faced raging, snorting rhino trying to bum rush him.
Why egg on someone whose posts often reflect the same temperment we are denegrating Duva for displaying ?
Mostly a buffoon who had enough fortune to buy an Olympic Team. The entire team. He was entertaining. I don't consider him a trainer. Without knowing him common sense would tell you to find another trainer. I dont think Lou knew anything about defense. It kinda shows. Yes he was partly to blame for Taylor not focusing on Richard Steele, Lou had no buisness being up on the ring apron, that and the damage had. Whatever senses Meldrick had left in that moment maybe 5% he didnt need Fred Flinstone twerking next to him
