Does Manny Pacquiao have more american fans than Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

i think its safe to assume that Post-Oscar Pacquiao can generate much more revenue than pre-Oscar Pacquiao.

Also, people thought Pac vs Oscar was a mismatch, just a money fight, and that they were being ripped off. Actually people boycotted that fight and said it was a circus fight. So considering that, 1.25 million is pretty good.

I've also questioned just how many PPV sales a fight between two non-Americans at one of the lighter weights will generate in the USA.

 

You would also have to consider the economy when projecting PPV sales for a summer fight between Hatton and Pacquiao, in that case.

well, pac-jmm @130 generated 400k PPV buys in the US. but before anybody says that this is because of jmm, i would like to remind you that jmm-barrera didn't even reach 200k PPV buys. i think pac vs. solis had 200k while pac vs. diaz was 250k.

I see that Pacquiao has increased his profile, I see that economic factors might lower the PPV market. I see 500k US PPV sales for Pacquiao v Hatton. I don't see 800k.

 

Oscar-Pac did suffer from being seen as a mismatch by a lot of people but it also had the benefit of Oscar. A lot of casual fans in the USA will buy a PPV just because its an Oscar fight, Hatton-Pac obviously doesn't have this advantage.

 

well, that also may mean that less brits will be traveling to the US for the pac fight due to the economy. both UK and US PPVs will certainly be affected by it.

i'm thinking around 600-650k but could reach 700k, also depends on promotion. but i also think that UK PPVs will be lower than the 1.25M in hatton-mayweather fight. the bad economy affects both. maybe 950k-1.0M UK PPVs.

 

Yes on the first point (exchange rate being a much bigger factor than 'the economy' in general).

All other things being equal Hatton could probably do more UK PPVs against Pacquiao now than he did Mayweather. He's got even more mainstream exposure in the last year. Economic factors may have some impact, but probably less than on the US market (major factor - the cost to the buyer is half as much or thereabouts than in the US).

I think Hatton could equal his UK sales for the Mayweather fight.

 

1.4 million was the final tally up for Hatton v Mayweather.

 

The Malignaggi fight bang in the middle of the credit crunch scare did 1.1 million. I don't think the economy is going to impact many people to the extent that they won't pay £15 for PPV boxing.

 

let's see. the economy will certainly get worse this year before it changes for the better.
