does Marquez's murderous KO of Pacquiao make him the clear winner of their series

You got one draw and two close decisions that many people dispute..
The KO should settle it, no?

Nah. That fight was still an extremely close fight.

I respect Manny more for giving the rematches while JMM steadfastly avoided getting back in the ring with Pac after the knockout. Had JMM gotten the decision in their first or second fight, we'd never have even gotten the series. He wanted rematches when it suited him and didn't give them himself.

Why indeed. He knew he could never top it and didn't want to give Pac the chance to avenge it. He's said as much.

Contrast that with Pac who routinely fought his best opposition multiple times. JMM benefited from Pac giving him chances he himself never would give Pac in return.

Moreover, the last fight itself was an epic one that was worthy of a rematch.

JMM landed a phenomenal punch to end it, but it wasn't some one sided beatdown. Pac was winning a super close match at the time. Had it been a schooling for JMM, I could see the argument for that being the end.

It wasn't. He just chose to get off the ride at the time most advantageous to him.

That didn't really happen. You could argue that JMM priced himself out of another fight, but in essence he was just asking for a Pac-sized purse.

I think he would have been consistent in that whatever point in the series he'd taken that win in but if the'd paid him the money he'd have taken the fight.

    https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/02/05/13/marquez-says-fans-dont-want-5th-pacquiao-fight

He said the fans didn't want the fight.

    https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/spo...ht-pacquiao-if-he-wins-against-bradley/story/

Then, he said he'd take the fight if Manny beat Bradley in the rematch.

Then he fought Mike Alvarado and retired instead.

He doesn’t say he’d fight him there. There’s no such quote. His stance was always clear and even Pacquaio and Roach said pre-fight, “winner takes all”. He didn’t say “winner takes all unless we lose then let’s go again”.

It’s a bit of a myth that Pacquaio “gave” Marquez opportunities. Marquez was the unified champion in fight I so nobody “gave” the other the fight. The re-match Marquez was champion so if anyone “gave” the other the chance it was him. Fight III was overdue due to many, many people thinking Marquez won fight II. It wasn’t a charity act from Pacquaio. They figured Marquez was ripe for the picking being that he was 38 and not effective above 135. Fight IV happened because of fight III being a total robbery that few believed Pacquaio deserved. Fight IV was very definitive.

Marquez won the series. Let’s say you think fight I was a fair draw (even though Marquez was the better fighter in it) there’s no way he didn’t win at least one of the next two so by fight IV the worst it could have been was 1-2 so with his KO being the only clear win even at 2-2 he’s have the upper hand. He really deserved to be at worse 2-1-1. I personally feel he was 4-0.

Said he'd take the fight for $25m:

    https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/spo...urth-meeting-with-chief-rival-pacquiao/story/

    https://www.michaeldsellers.com/blo...ao-a-plucked-chicken-demands-25m-for-rematch/

    Then $20m:

    http://www.boxing.com/marquez_asks_20m_to_fight_manny.html

Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao did not want to pay him that amount.

    So the fight didn't happen.
