does Marquez's murderous KO of Pacquiao make him the clear winner of their series

Does Walcott’s KO of Ezzard Charles make him a clear winner of their rivalry?
Personally I had Pac winning Fight 1 and 2, the 3rd being a draw and JMM obviously winning the 4th big time. He definitely finished the rivalry definitively but that doesn’t really make him the ‘winner’ nor does it make him ‘better’ than Pac. JMM had a stylistic advantage and Pac had to overcome that with his speed to even out the odds. Ironically JMM would lose to Bradley in his very next fight, whom Pac would later beat twiceso I wouldn’t say JMM got the last laugh.

Yep ,the ko sealed the deal .And if Manny Pac was truthful to himself he'd tell you the same .

On paper, no. But, in terms of an epically poetic and just end for Marquez, absolutely!!

I'd rather just think about the greatness of the fights .. they all won individual matches .. great series .. Rafael marquez and ivan hernandez was nice too

not really.. It was a lucky punch. Manny is regarded as the much greater fighter.

That was a well timed and executed punch....I don’t buy into lucky punches....perhaps Castro vs Jackson might fit the bill. But to call that a lucky punch is to simplistic.

They fought 4 times. Manny was fighting a little more aggressive doing better than the last time, and he was careless. Marquez had a good style for him always, but Manny was better

If you think he was better that is fine. It is your right and a defendable position. It is not a fact, and there are many who would disagree. We just did another thread 2 weeks ago and only 1 guy had Manny winning the series. Most felt like JMM proved the better of the 2. Lucky punch is an excuse and nothing more. It overlooks a guy who trains, studies, sets traps and times and executes with precision...it was a calculated punch not a lucky one

Marquez never won a fight until that one punch, like it or not. And somehow he wins the series? He lost 2 and drew . That is hardly winning the series on a win or loss basis, regardless of how he won. A knockout win erases the other 2 wins?

Even though I don’t think it was a lucky punch at all (JMM perfectly timed it at the right moment) I fully agree. Some people just don’t want to give Manny any credit for having a legit win over JMM no matter how close those fights are and who you thought won. They were close and competitive but not a highway robbery.

Manny is the greater fighter of the 2 and probably a better h2h fighter as well but that doesn’t diminish JMM as an ATG. Both were well made for each other and JMM just happened to finish the series on top.

If I had to choose , I would say yes JMM got the better of it .. And in sort of the same way, I would choose Vasquez over his brother R. Marquez in that series as well, as much as I wouldn't want to...

I agree although I don't think Marquez is a highly rated ATG. ATG maybe but not too high. He lost to Johns, fought guys when they were older and then fought rather mediocre guys in between the Pacman fights.

Lets see it by just the numbers, 2-1-1 makes that second number the winner of the series? Numbers don't add the particulars, they are just the bottom line and don't include how close the two Pac wins were. Were not robots though and I can see how some would call it a drawn series.
