Mayorga has a chance ...anything can happen...Cotto can slip on a banana peel.
    That's Mayorgas realistic chance.
Mayorga may want to put a horseshoe in his glove for "good " luck!!!

People use the Mayorga/Mosley fight as an example that Mayorga could win but let's remember what happened. After struggling in the early rounds, Mosley found Mayorga many times with the right hand and though Mayorga kept it competitive Shane still knocked him out. Mayorga then had been inactive for two years. TWO YEARS. He faces Walker and looks tired in the mid rounds though he does more and soon stops him. He'll face Cotto 3 months after that and it would have been 3 years since Mayorga once looked very good. THREE YEARS. In that time Cotto beats Clottey(debatable win), falls to Pacquiao, then rebounds with a win over a titlist at a new weight(154) in Foreman. Time favors Cotto career-wise and Mayorga should only get a very slim chance to beat him.

Why early? Did you watch the Cotto/Margarito fight? All Mayorga has to do is be Mayorga. Keep throwing bombs, stay on Cotto relentlessly, and taunt the hell out of him.

It is Cotto's gas tank that has always been in question. The guys who take Mayorga out are battle tested warriors with KNOWN big punches. Cotto wasn't sparking top guys at 147. Hell it took him 11 rounds and low blows to stop Zab. Now you think he can just smash through iron chin Mayorga?

Look who the promoters are. We might just be watching the sacrifice of Cotto. Manny/Mayorga might be next. Mayorga is tailor made for Manny though. He just doesn't have the buzz to get the fight. Unless...

Still you gloss over the exact formula that destroyed Cotto the first time. It was Margarito's relentless pressure and antics. He smiled, jogged over to him, etc...

Cotto won that whole fight except for the last two rounds and turned his back and quit. He had no awareness to hold, get on his bike, etc... 3:55 was all he needed to last to win. When he saw the guy kept coming he folded. IMHO, his stamina gave out and he succumed to bullying. Mayorga is the bully of all bullies.

Now I won't get into the wraps because I do think Margo had them loaded, but Cotto is in a very similar scenario, but Mayorga has certified dynamite in those hands.

:patsch Were you hiding in a hole in the desert Saddam Hussein-style for a year, and missed the fact that Margarito is a proven cheat who crunched up Cotto's facial features by using loaded plaster handwraps? There's no way Margo only came up with that idea for the Mosley fight. :nono

Mayorga doesn't fight all that similarly to Margarito. And he doesn't have loaded handwraps to help him. And he doesn't have the stamina of Margarito.

Cotto is going to smash one brutal bodyshot into Mayorga's flab and end this fight in style. :deal

I addressed that. Mayorga is actually a hard puncher.

He's getting KTFO by a bodyshot. Deal with it.

If Mayorga showed up as the Mayorga who destroyed Forest, then he'd have a great chance, because he'd totally disrespect Cotto's power and force the blows trading. But as it stands, with Mayorga way past his prime, it's hard to fathom anything other than a Cotto KO win.

What "style" was Margarito using in that fight? Cotto was hitting him with everything he threw at him and looking great doing it. Margo was just chasing and letting his hands go when he got close. Problem is Cotto ran out of gas (and most likely the wraps. but that wasn't proven).

Mayorga won't need the stamina. He has The Eraser. All he needs is for Cotto to slip ONCE.

Body shot? Right. Cotto hasn't done great body work since 2006.

I'm with you that Mayorga has a chance tonight. Maybe even a bigger chance than most of us think he does. But Mayorga right now isn't a primed out Margarito. In his own prime, he was a much different fighter. Cotto is going to find it a lot easier to slip under Mayorga's wild punches than he did against Margarito, who just kept chopping him down with short punches on the inside. Mayorga doesn't know what a short punch is.

But Mayorga is going to land something at some point, and if I was a huge Cotto fan I'd be a little bit worried about that. Cotto recovers well but he's never had to recover well and fast yet at 154.
