Does Mayweather Become 8-time World champion by beating cotto?

    he was a 6-time world champion in 5 weight classes before Ortiz who was reigning WBC champion so that makes him 7-time world champion at the moment, and if the Cotto fight is for the WBA belt a win there makes him 8-time world champion? this is not including Mosley who was the WBA champion at the time but no belt was on the line.

    Yes, could of been 9 if he'd paid the sanctioning fee for the Mosley bout.

    Belts mean little these days, but they may add a certain gloss to his resume when it's looked back on by future generations.

    Exactly thats why I think the Cotto fight is for the title, he wants it on his resume it sounds more better but there won't be no 3% deal, Mayweather probably has offered $30k or something to the WBA.
