I just re-watched the Mosley vs Vernon " The Viper " Forrest (R.I.P.). Vernon almost exclusively landed lead right hands folloved by left hook / uppercut. I started thinking Mayweather for the past 6-7 years or so has really been able to throw and effectively land lead right hands on his opponents. Cotto also was very effective with right hands on SSM. But as I can recall Mayweather said he never watches film of his opponents. I wonder how true it is. So I ask the Forum do you believe Mayweather just adapts in the ring, or does he watch film of his opponents?? Discuss!

He says he doesn't he says he goes in there and Adapts to the situation and finds a way to win. I think he knows a bit about his opponent going in but lets face it he's such a talented boxer that really he doesn't need to worry so much about what they do...they have to worry about what he does.

He watches as much boxing as most on ESB do, both as a fan and to see what others are doing I'm sure. Every professional anything does this.

I don't believe it. Why wouldn't he? If you can sit down and watch a 45 minute boxing match to give you a leg up, why not? I'm sure when hes sitting around in his mansion wearing his boxers eating out of the box of fruit loops he pops in an old boxing video.

His uncle watches tapes. Mayweather really doesn't need to. He can adapt pretty well in the ring, and his uncle will devise a good strategy based on what he's seen on film.

I would say he probably does, but I think he doesn't like to reveal his strategies or game plans so he is pretty quiet about all of it.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he didn't watch them that often though.

He's only mentioned it on a few occasions, and I know he is really talented but its really hard to believe. And if its true its really impressive.

Like someone else mentioned almost every professional anything watches film of their opponents. Why do you say its not a big deal?

If Floyd doesn't it's his problem. That's the sort of hubris which leads to defeat.

Not everything is a formula i.e what works for one doesn't work for all. I would guess if he doesn't watch them Roger does works on the game plan tells him what to look for and he does it!

I'm more inclined to think floyd adapts.

When he fights south paws he fights the same way, conventional blocking and lead rights.

When he fights a counter puncher he fights the same way.

    Aggressive mexicans, the same way.

He usually adapts to each guy 2-3 rounds in... i.e. hatton/judah

Floyd has a very critical eye for spotting things, so while other fighters study tapes, watching a fight once when it's actually happening could be good enough for him.

I wouldn't count out Mayweather seeing a fight once on hbo ppv as being all he needs.

I'm a Mayweather fan, but I think he's bullshitting about it to try to exaggerate his greatness. He likes to claim that he doesn't read articles on the internet, but you will see him post a boxing article from whichever site every 1-3 weeks on his twitter.
