Put simply, I was rewatching McClellan Vs Jackson I, and Gerald is spoiling like a total numbnuts. From all the highlights you see of him, and all of the big knockouts he has, he's fighting what should be an easy match against a past it Jackson like Julian was gonna blow him out of the water with one punch. Yes, The Hawk had a monstrous punch, but was spoiling really the answer, especially when you're not very good at it, and you have much better tools in your arsenal? I haven't watched a lot of Gerald in a while, but this just made me confused.
Grover Krantz was an anthropologist who believed Sasquatch were extant gigantopithecus who'd migrated across the Bering land bridge. I am not sure how to pluralize any of these words or what they mean. But if this is the same Grover from Sesame Street, I would follow him to hell and back without needing to understand any of it.
I haven’t seen Gerald fight in a long time but I remember him being a solid viewing. Wish he would’ve fought at 175lbs instead of 160lbs. Emmanuel said he was “physically limitless” or similar, ES commented from memory that he preferred when GM fought at a slower, measured pace instead of overpowering guys that he was the best “boxer-puncher” from 90-94. I think GM fought exactly like someone (by the sounds of it) who knew he was bigger, more powerful etc similar to Hearns and Moorer, Hearns adapted as he went up Moorer… and Gerald I wish we could’ve seen, he could’ve went all the way to Cruiser, maybe a stop at the heavyweight scene.
Hardly any spoiling from that fight. I thought the first Jackson vs McClellan fight was great with some brutal action. The only spoiling was the occasional clinches but there were still bombs being thrown from both fighters. Gerald McClellan never spoiled a fight. He always came looking to flatten his opponents very early on. If anything he’s the exact opposite of a spoiler.
Gerald was moving all over the place and letting Julian get the jab in on him. He would move, throw a good combination, and then go back to the outside. It just seemed very uncharacteristic.
McClellan was the taller guy with the longer reach, and against a monster puncher like Jackson. It was in his best interest to have some distance and use the clinch to stop Jackson in his tracks. His lack of defense showed but still managed to get the job done by knocking Jackson out. In the rematch he went all in on Jackson and destroyed him without letting him rest. That was the vicious McClellan style that he’s mostly known for. For all his talents McClellan really could have been a much better fighter had he improved on his defensive skills and focused more on boxing without always looking for the KO.
I guess it just looks poor. I was aware that he lackluster defense, but it just seemed so shitty that the mythical "G-Man" was getting away from an aged Jackson instead of knocking him out quick.
