Does merely surviving count as a good performance these days?

So he survived a couple more rounds than most people had predicted but he still failed because from what I saw his intention seemed to be to just make it to the final bell. He took absolutely no chances which was extremely disappointing after all the BS bravado he had displayed.

He did his best. Canelo was just too good. Plant surpassed expectations against him.

Like I said ti the other guy, he did his best. Canelo was just too good for him. He showed a lot of flash, skill & bravado in defeat.

What chances do you want a feather fisted pure boxer to take exactly? He was operating at his capacity. Doing anything else would have been genuinely stupid, given his circumstances, and would have only ensured, and hastened, his demise.

Maybe he should have asked Joe instead of Ward...

You're basically proving my point, Caleb did not take any chances because he realized he would get stopped, and as you stated that would have been stupid, but that is basically the definition of playing it safe.

After getting paid 10Mil+ and saying stuff like "Mark my words, I will be undisputed.."..I did expect a little more than to see him be in survival mode throughout the fight.

He wasn't in survival mode. You don't know what you were watching if you think that's survival mode. In fact the 9th round was one of his best rounds in the fight... pretty sure he won that on most people's scorecard. And that round was either the most or second most punches he threw in the fight.

    So much for survival mode.

He was trying to win rounds by doing what he does best, which is trying to outbox Canelo. It didn't work.

And lastly, you're wrong. He actually did try different tactics in the fight to try and turn the momentum, I know because I was frustrated he was doing it as he was doing it.

There were times he would abandon his movement to try and establish his presence. I blame Ward for that because Ward has a philosophy that you have to push punchers back... and I bet he convinced Plant to try that. But Plant didn't have the physicality to do that and wound up just taking punishment when he tried.

So no, he wasnt in survival mode, he did try to change things up, but abandoning his literal only path of victory to take more 'chances' is a lame criticism in this fight, given the contexts. Imo.

BS to most of that. Bottom line you think he did all he could and I vehemently disagree, let's leave it at that.

Being aggressive coming forward and missing hitting the air and arms does not score you points especially when your opponent is touching you up.

What Plant did was considered good because no one expected him to do s much, heck, no one expects from anyone to survive more than 8 rounds with current Canelo,so Plant lasting 8 rounds and even winning 3 or 4 is a really good performance
