Does Mike McCallum not remind anyone of Thomas Hearns?

They both throw body punches the same. I was watching McCallum and Curry when I noticed McCallum doing this, and it reminded me just how Hearns would always bend his knees when he threw hooks to the body.

Only the left hook to the body, everything else is different, Hearns fought different on the outside and set his punches up and feet differently

agreed. It was only the body punching that reminded me of Hearns, except of course, that McCallum was a better or more effective body puncher.

    Maybe the Kronk connection.

Not reminiscent of each other that I can see. McCallum was more serpentine in his movements and better defensively, while Hearns was a bit more static in his movement and committed himself physically to his shots. There's just a totally different presence to the two of them.

I’ve always thought of Hearns as a poor man’s Sugar Ray Robinson...

Are you kidding? He's nothing like Robinson. Actually, he fights a lot more like Jimmy Ellis.

And ironically...he never stopped anyone with a body shot ....McCallum was a great combination puncher who never neglected the body

The power ...the speed ...neither guy was a defensive wizard....neither guy was great on the inside

I must admit ...I’ve never studied Jimmy Ellis ( I’ve only seen him lose )

Ya, I think Hearns didn't make the most of the body shots because he bent into them with his legs. And he usually did that when he was tiring imo. Not a very good practice to start body punching late in a fight. One of Tommy's worst habits.

The old shell shocked hearns of 1988/89 shorn of previous flamboyance concentrating on defence to hide his shot legs and chin fought a bit like mccallum...flatfooted,great counters, body shots...but the similarity was very slight...the 1991 hearns that beat hill had all his speed back.

Id love to have seen hearns v mccallum in late 1991.
