how can tyson not be in the list!??!? fair enough, his career wasn't great overall, but in his peak he would have demolished any heavyweight excluding ali, frazier and foreman maybe..

Oh, and to answer the original question, Here's my current Top 10:

    1. Muhannad Ali
    2. Joe Louis
    3. Rocky Marciano
    4. Larry Holmes
    5. George Foreman
    6. Lennox Leiws
    7. Joe Frazier
    8. Jack Johnson
    9. Mike Tyson
    10. Jack Dempsey

No currently active fighters taken into consideration (So no Klits or Holyfield). Just a personal restriction because I don't believe in rating a fighter until their entire body of work has been completed. Holyfield will likely slot into either the ninth or tenth slot if he were to retire tomorrow.

Could easily put Liston or Jefferies in the tenth slot, and I wouldn't complain either. But yeah, I think Tyson did enough when he was at his best to ensure entry into the Top 10.

    Where is Lewis?!

Nah, I dont see Tyson in the top 10, maybe close. He just misses the top 10 by the tip of Evander's ear.

That's a bit of news to me. Mind providing me with the list of greats Holmes fought, and please don't include Ali, that would be just dumb.

Larry Holmes... well, his fight with Norton was one of the greatest heavyweight title fights ever. It is written that Holmes had not escaped Ali's shadow until he defeated him on October 2nd, 1980, which would also be Holmes's eighth straight knockout in defense of his title, which tied the all-time record. Even then, Holmes wasn't accepted, beating bums although handily.

It wasn't until the Mercer fight when fans and media took notice of him, the final chapter for a man called "Greatness" - Bert Sugar

Not arguing with you, but that's a short list of one, and a past prime one at that.

Not really knocking Holmes either, he had a good career and deserves to be in the 4-6 range, but he his comp was nothing special, and Zak was insinuating that it was much better than Lewis' which I don't believe to be the case.

Funny how pissed people get about these lists, not everyone will agree, face it. All the fighters are about the same on all the lists anyways. And I don't think active guys should be on this list yet, waiting to evaluate the full body of work is a better idea in my opinion.
    1. Rocky Marciano (only man to defeat everyone he faced...the first time)
    2. Joe Louis (retired unbeaten during his title run, should have stayed retired though)
    3. Ali, would have him higher if he didn't hold so much after his layoff, still great though
    4. George Foreman champ of two totally different eras, impressive
    5. Larry Holmes
    6. Joe Frazier
    7. Lennox Lewis
    8. Mike Tyson
    9. Jack Johnson
    10. Jack Dempsey
    to each his own!

I'll hold Holmes over Lewis as well. But I guess victories against has-beens don't apply to Lewis here, no surprise. His best prime win was who, Tua? Guy ducks Byrd and Ruiz, retired ducking a Vitali rematch, all too fitting.
Maybe if Bert Sugar comes out with an updated top 100 greatest boxers list from 2006, Lewis might make it on there (Holmes was #45).
But hey, to each his own.
