It seems like the first fight has been virtually erased from history due to the outcome of their second encounter, but Griffin did give him his toughest fight ever.. tough enough that out of frustration Jones plastered him while he was down.

    What do you think? :think

He does deserve credit for the way he fought. His DQ win would hold more value if he hadn't been KD twice before he got the DQ. Had he been winning, it would be a different story.

Toughest fight ever? I feel Tarver and Glen Johnson have a thing or two to say about that.

Montell was actually winning the fight on one card. Down only 1 point on anther, and 2 points on the 3rd. He was fighting a great fight, and I felt that Jones did what he did CLEARLY out of frustration, and deserved the loss for it. It was Griffin's performance that had Jones so frustrated, so he did cause Jones to lose.

I think that Roy was in his prime vs Tarver. I said for two years that if Roy fought Tarver, that Tarver would beat him. I even made bets on this forum for those fights. Tarver was the best fighter that Roy had fought in a LONG time.

He definitely made Jones look human, and presented real stylistic problems and a great gameplan, mastered by trainer Eddie Futch.

:good But no, he does not deserve the credit as Roy was coming on strong.

He DOES however get credit for making Jones look less than superhuman.

Jones had already knocked him down in the round. So Jones was winning the fight and would have been up on all three cards. Regardless, Griffin was losing.

Jones may have been frustrated, but I think it was his wanting to finish Griffin once he knew he was on the ropes that made him hit him when he was down.

Jones wasn't prime, and I don't think Tarver is any better than Gonzalez was or perhaps even Woods. Just better known.

I picked more recent fighters. I think Gonzalez would have outworked Tarver honestly.
