disagree Calzaghe didn't have much muscle. would have slowed him down.look at difference between him and Jeff Lacy. Another example would be guys like Pavilk, Morales and Arguello. thin guys not much muscle but they could hit like a mule.
Thin guys with long arms can be the most destructive. guys like Arguello, Morales, Tarver could bang. Tommy Hearns and Julian Jackson come to mind as the most destructive for their weight classes and ability to decapitate opponents.
Depends if we are talking young Foreman or old Foreman. Young Foreman wasn't actually THAT big compared to some of the modern heavies. I think he looked slow because he wound up a lot, but e planted his feet pretty heavily and got his weight into the shots. What always surprises me is guys who are light on their feet and yet can still generate massive power. Chins and power are massively misunderstood by non-boxers IMO. A lot of knockouts come down to how a shot lands, body angles, and how well a puncher is set at the time. A fly weight will knock anybody out if he gets a free shot and can wind up on a guys chin. On the flipside a guy like Vitali is very hard to knock out because his chin is always pulling away from a shot. He doesn't hang it out the way his brother does.
Really? .. Everything comes from your muscles. The question is do you need big puscles to punch hard, and the answer is no.
Leg and stomach muscles. Core strength, hip, torque. Like a baseball batter such as Babe Ruth had a lot of power. So yes muscles have a lot to do with it but so does technique, and natural strength. Strength isn't measured as size as a lot of strong looking body builders aren't really lifting very heavy weights while a guy like Mosley is said to have bench pressed almost twice his body weight and a guy like Tyson was able to squat thousands of pounds.
You need short arms, big hands, with tight hard muscles. Someone like an Abraham has the perfect body for punching or a Mike Tyson or a Michael Moorer.
Wrong muscles in the wrong places. If you want to know why someone like Roy Jones, Evander Holyfield or Mike Tyson had so much power it's because power is generated from the center of the body. The center line theory, all speed and power comes from the center. A straight punch is faster than a wide punch and the power comes from the center of the stomach, then the legs, then up the legs to the arms. Having big arms wont give you more power except for inside fighting.
punching power is a god given gift as is speed and chin. You can improve all of the above with training as u could anything. Power is a combination of the god given 'either u have it or u dont' with technique and timing. Muscles do not improve power. Being in shape for your weight x speed x technique x angles.
