    For me, a knockout punch is determined by generating enough leverage in the punch - whether it be in the arms /hips/toes etc. Those with excellent technique i.e. on toes, leaning into punch and correct body positioning make it look effortless, (regardless of weight) e.g. naseem hamed / roy jones jr / tommy hearns / julian jackson / pacquiao etc.

    in zuri's case he was an arm puncher and had bad form early in his career but he did improve on it..if he wanted to he could have got you out of there but he got more fights by not being a threat

    to put it very simply, speed x mass =power. if you can throw a punch quickly with a lot of weight behind it then it's going to cause damage. if you have more muscles, then there is more mass so all other things being equal it would help. however if you have poor technique it doesn't mean much, same if those same muscles hinder your speed. guys like arguello had thin arms but put all the momentum from their back and legs into the punch making it more powerful. not claiming to be some kind of expert that's just how i see it, obviously there's other factors like angle and point of impact of puch etc

    It's actually F=ma (force=mass x acceleration, newtons 2nd law). But you're point is valid.

    I think I agree with you nw about Foreman. He was a bad example for me to pick.

    BTW, I WAS a boxer. Amateur only. MW. Retired at 12-1, when I realized I wasn't ATG material & also that it hurt like hell when you got clocked. :lol:
    (switched to cycling and made the national team, but never made the olympic team.)

    Now I'm old & slow. Sigh .........

    Punching is 90% technique.

    Hearns odda great example. Before Steward he was much less of a puncher. Manny rebuilt his technique.

    Tyson, another great example. Small for a HW but massive power due to perfect punching technique.

    Strengthening the body obviously helps with punching power, assuming technique is not sacraficed.

    momentum = mass * velocity

    therefore....you can have all the muscles in the world but if the punches aren't even fast....it's useless
