    Sigh.

    An example.

2 boxers, both boxers adopt the same style, both boxers have an uncanny skill set, but one boxer has had more success throughout his career.

    Boxer A.
    Boxer B.

Boxer A is considered a highly skilled boxer who has performed at elite level for many, many years.
    Boxer B
is considered a highly skilled boxer who has performed at just beneath world level for a good number of years.

    Boxer A
has moved up a series of weight classes, using and displaying said skills to beat the best in the world.
Boxer B has moved up a series of weight classes, using and displaying said skills both successfully and unsuccessfully.

Given how you think resume, achievements and level of opposition don't come in to the equation in this debate, would you consider these boxers to be on the same skill level given their achievements?

I see more versatility in Donaire. When Donaire is not so power happy, he can really get on his toes, box, and work a good jab.

How do you determine how skilled a fighter is? What is "skill" anyway? Is it a good jab? Good footwork?

lol at montiel being past it:lol:, he recently held 2 titles before the donaire fight and was at the peak of his career during that time. And Look at most of donaire's defeated comp, still young and most of them bounce back from the loss to donaire to still become champions while most of pac opponents were all retired or semi retired after losing, just shows you who fought more past it/shot to **** opponents.

and :rofl at you mentioning *******s when you're being one right now:lol: ever notice why most who pick pacquiao in this thread are *******s and pacfans, c'mon bro we're talking about skills here, Arce to donaire though is similar to pacquiao fighting morales in their 3rd fight

It's all so beautiful. Seriously slow mo pac brings a tear to my eye, that duck lunging left under the opponents left is so gorgeous. That's why left hooks just DON'T work against Pac. Need that straight right.

I think this is one of the reasons why alot of people here are so biased with Donaire's skills over Pacquiao's. I'm also a Donaire fan and I don't want him to look bad in this forum but there are several things Pac can do that Donaire doesn't seem able to do :-(

I think someone just mentioned the WV2 fight where Donaire staggered him but couldn't finish him up. If it was Pac on that same position, he would've KOed WV2 or if he survives the real damage would've started in there. Nobody wants to get wobbled in front of Pac. That alone is already a skill that Donaire doesn't seem to have. :deal

    1. Quality
    2. Opposition

I'm just showing the similarities of the punch that knockout pac and the one donaire loves to use against darchinyan, clearly that is a skill I would prefer over pac's

I think you're one of those guys who prefers "slickness" as a superior skill.

I don't remember a straight counter-right that took Darchinyan down. And I think Pac is pretty good in handling left-hooks. Which one was it?

Actually Montiel was looking alot better in his Flyweight/SuperFlyweight days, not too mention that he was weight drained in the Nonito fight, rehydrating 16lbs on fight night. He just happened to score the biggest win in his career the year before. Credit to Donaire for that win, but still pales in comparison to say the Cotto win.

Most of Donaire's defeated comp are a bunch of B level fighters and or overmatched midgets. The only ones worth mentioning are Montiel, Arce, and Nishioka who have pretty much retired, and done **** all after. I'll give you Darchinyan tho, he managed to do very good after being defeated by Donaire, but then again Barrera after being defeated by Pac still managed to win a title in his 3rd weight class and pretty much won the rivalry against his nemesis Morales, and was on a pretty nice run for a while and managed to give Marquez a very difficult fight.

Not being a ******* at all, just stating the obvious that Donaire's comp comes nowhere remotley close to Pac.

As far as skill goes, i haven;t really argued with anyone saying Nonito is the more skill guy, but to be completly honest i dont think theres much seperating the two when it comes to skill. Donaire is far more fundamentally sound, while Pacquiao is more unorthodox, they both have a diffrent skillset.

Fact of the matter is tho, that they both heavily rely on their natural talent.

Basically, this is what it comes down to with most of the people here saying Donaire is "far more skilled".

This is a difficult question, because they're different types of fighters and they have different approaches in the ring. Donaire is better at sitting back and setting traps for his opponent with counters, but Pac is better on the front foot, jumping in with combinations or the straight left. He's had bad results recently, but when you look at his record, Marquez has been the only person to beat him since 2005, when Pac fought Morales, and he KO'd Morales in the rematch. (No, Bradley didn't win.)

Pac has a tendency to look wild and off balance, and doesn't have the same polished approach as Donaire, but he also does very sharp things too. His timing with the right-hook counter is often impressive, and the way he slips jabs while shooting his straight left (eg, Cotto and the recent Marquez fight) is great to watch. He's also got better at anticipating his opponent's attempt to duck his 1-2. When he fought Mosley and Bradley, he threw the jab, then aimed lower for the straight when they ducked down and caught them:

Pac still has holes in his game, and he certainly isn't the most skilled fighter out there, but he's better than some people think. He mainly looks bad against Marquez, and that's because Marquez is a very good, smart boxer who knows Pac inside out. He knows his favourite combinations, his favourite 'duck' feint, the distance and lateral movement needed to make him fall short and fall into counters, etc.

I prefer Donaire's style, but Pac has skill of his own.

If that's their case, they should have rephrased their question into "Who is more SLICK" and the answer would've easily been Donaire.

I'm starting to think that SKILLS are becoming standardized through fighting labels nowadays.
