Open Scoring can be employed, to save the game from scandal.. (If the scores were posted to a select company of supervisors) But keep the scores away from the fans, arena, and fighters and corners.. It ruins the wow factor of an unexpected victory.. there would be no gaspppp .... (And the Newwwww) Keep our game the way it was intended.. Have open scoring amongst official fan based supervisors.. Don't ruin the suspence for the true fans.. after all Boxing is entertainment..
Its ****in shite. You will get more and more fighters bailing out like Peter, or, get more fighters going on their bike when they know they are ahead who would otherwise fight. This affects the game completely impacting too much on pace, and strategy employed by fighters: judging the bout is part of a fighter's / corner's job but this is taken away. Corners will become too reactive. Shite.
If a fight is being scored correctly there is no need for suspense. Did you need open scoring to tell you Peter was getting his ass kicked?
I completely fail to see the logic of open scoring. Open scoring just opens the door for crowd reaction to affect judging for the balance of the fight. It can also affect the performance of a fighter who is getting the short end on the scorecards. I think its stupid. And if the WBC think it will improve scoring then they're basically admitting that they have bad judges that need to have the crowd tell them they are.
In last springs McKart/Marquez fight it was clear that two judges changed their score cards. I've seen photo copies posted on the web, and it is very clear. Marquez ended up with a title eliminator, and now a shot at Abraham. McKart got zippitty ****! Open scoring may prevent that sort of thing, but I still don't like it. I would be more in favor of careful reviews and SERIOUS consequences for bias or crooked judges. This is a problem that a national boxing commision could resolve.
I hate open scoring. The entire premise that it "avoids robberies" is trash for the simple reason that even if after eight rounds the scores suck, how is that going to change the scoring? People boo and so the final four rounds get scored with bias to compensate? The premise is worse than absurd.
I agree. There seemed to be no atmosphere at the fight. Also, the camera work was crap. They kept cirling round with that stupid crane shot.
I still fail to see how having the scores open prevents robberies. If someone is getting ****ed after four rounds, then at eight rounds, they're ****ed whether they know the score or not. The open scoring doesn't CHANGE the robbery, just lets you watch it in progress.
It would have been interesting to see how the judges would or could explain their scores OPENLY during the 2007 "Joel Casamayor-Santa Cruz" fight on the undercard of "Cotto-Mosley." I thought Santa Cruz got his colon cleansed by them judges.... MR.BILL
I agree bro, and the camera angles were horrible.. combined with the white mat, I came out with a headache after that fight...lol (I can only imagine SP's head..)
