Does Ortiz have the mind to deal with Mayweather trying to get into his head.

Did anyone see the 24/7 episode where DLH had to give this kid a pep talk?? He's quit in the ring before and now he's showing a weakness that can not be solved by any trainer, gym, diet, roadwork or any other physical activity...Dead Man Walking...

I think Ortiz is mentally strong enough to stand up to Floyd and fight to his maximum. It won't be enough, but Ortiz won't fold like a Zab Judah.

Boxing fans are so ridiculously quick to jump on any sign of weakness and use it as proof of a guy being permanently afflicted by a lack of heart, will, desire, etc. Which is nonsense really. Some guys have had meltdowns in or close to their primes (Duran vs SRL II) and then went on to show an IRON will in later fights (Duran vs Hagler & Barkley). The fact that Ortiz cracked during a brutal fight with an evil puncher simply means he was complacent and a bit green. If they fought now, Ortiz would slap the **** out of him. The Berto fight proved he is mentally and physically strong now.

I'm actually quite surprised Victor Ortiz came away from the Andre Berto fight elevated. Berto looked as if he wanted to be somewhere else for the vast majority of the rounds, and he still managed to score two knockdowns simply by throwing wild haymakers. This doesn't bode too well for young Ortiz considering who his next opponent is. Floyd is going to dazzle. No question in my mind.

Its a fair enough opinion, I def dont agree though. I dont see Mayweather stopping Ortiz, regardless of his gameplan. Just imo.

Then again, he could die a death of a 1000 counters... sure.

    We will see :think

Id rather maximise my chances of winning if it means me being stopped, then playing safe though, and cruising to an L.

Ortiz is the kind of fighter that will stick to a gameplan win, lose, or draw.

We will see though, thats the best part.

This is exactly what Ortiz has to do to win:deal

    It is very possible

    A couple of points mate:

    - I think Berto was shellshocked from having to take a knee in the 1st to escape heavy fire from a guy he thought he'd walk through, that to a large extent accounts for his tepid performance afterwards

    - Berto has better brute power than Mayweather, Berto would clip over most welters with haymakers, Floyd couldn't and wouldn't and doesn't

    - I agree Floyd wins this fight convincingly, but I was impressed by the will that Ortiz showed in the Berto fight, and have always liked Ortiz's power combos

Nahh people tend to underrate Mayweather's pop lately. Ortiz is definitely hurtable and if Floyd lands those fast, hard, accurate punches like we know he will, he will have Victor in serious trouble more than once. I don't see a flashy KO but a stoppage is the most likely scenario IMO.

Rushing Floyd Mayweather is the way to beat him? There may be a certain strategy to best use against a Floyd Mayweather, but only two fighters in or around his weight class really have the ability to make it work, in my opinion. Sergio Martinez and Manny Pacquiao. Victor Ortiz can bring any gameplan he wants, he just doesn't have the physical attributes or technical ability to defeat someone of Mayweather's class. If he proves me wrong I will be quite pleased. I hope for a competitive fight. I'm sure we all do.

Fair point, but I think this told us more about Andre Berto's limitations rather than Victor Ortiz's strengths.

Berto has brute power, absolutely, but it's not good news that Victor Ortiz was actually getting caught by his wild haymakers. Floyd Mayweather never would get caught by such a shot, and in the event he did, it would be a one time thing and then he'd adjust accordingly. There's a massive disparity in quality between these two fighters, and using the Berto fight as a basis to set out against Floyd Mayweather is not the answer. It's not even the best approach.

0rtiz deserves credit for getting up off the canvas to win. Agreed.

Mayweather would've whipped Berto with greater ease than Ortiz did, that's for sure. I don't rate Berto at all, think he's a flat-footed sloth. I like Ortiz and I do rate him, he's just going to be in the ring with a vastly superior technician on Saturday night, that's all. I still think he has the firepower to score a flash KD on Floyd, but he'll lose the rest of the fight most likely. This could end up a similar trajectory to Floyd vs Mosley, though with a more spirited performance from the loser.
