People here don't understand that not only is Clottley Overrated, but so is Cotto, and Margarito, they are nothing but gate keepers/2nd tier guys, nobody wants to see arguably the best fighter in the division constantly picking on people that pose absolutely no threat to him, he gets no credit for beating Clottley, a guy that lost almost all of his big fights, how did Clottley become a top welter by beating Judah, especially when Pac clearly ducked Mayweather and Mosley.

Boy I wish Pac, Cotto Clottley, Margarito, was in their peak at 47 around the time Tito, Mosley, and Forrest was in their prime, so we could all see how average they are.

Please man. Don't compare Clottey to Baldomir.

First off, consider the huge difference in size between the two. And say what you will about Clottey but up to that fight, he was pretty much competitive in every fight he had, including his losses to Marg and Cotto. I thought he beat Cotto. And even Clottey admitted that this is the first real loss of his career. There was no dispute. It's incredibly impressive for this midget to shut out a legit WW like Clottey.

But Cotto actually beat Mosley. Mosley, Margarito, Clottey, Cotto... Those guys are all pretty much on the same level at 147. Above guys like Berto, Collazo, Judah, Quintana, Baldomir and well above a guy like Marquez.

Of course, when these guys face each other there will be a winner and a loser. That doesn't make them gate keepers. They are the ones who beat the gatekeepers.

Pacquiao beat someone who has never stepped it up on the biggest stage. Big deal, its a nice busy win but it isn't landmark.

Why wouldn't he deserve credit? It isn't Manny's fault Clottey decided to impersonate a cryogenically-frozen Winky Wright for 12 rounds.

You're massively overrating Clottey here, I wouldn't even back him against a prime Judah.

Cotto is a Warrior, but he is a level lower than Pac, and Mayweather cause of his slow speed, weak chin, and horrible balance, those things will prevent him from being great.

Or perhaps, you're not giving Clottey enough credit/respect.

Oh i beg to differ. He deserves both. Just because he made a top WW look average doesn't mean Clottey was ****. Clottey's resume speaks for itself. I think this win is very impressive.

Cotto and Mosley had the best resume of fighting and beating legit welterweights out of any of the top guys, Pac and Floyd included. Clottey was still a top 5ish fighter.

When you consider that the group of welterweights directly below Floyd and Pac probably didn't win 5 rounds combined over 3 fights against them, that tells you how far above Pac and Floyd are in the scheme of things. Pac deserves plenty of credit for that kind of dominance, as does Floyd. They're not beating gatekeepers- they just make other world class fighters look that bad.

anytime a 135 or 140 fighter goes up and shutout a ranked fighter at 147 is worthy of praise.

I give him plenty of respect at his own level but when you're talking about someone at the very top of the sport fighting him then they won't get credit out of me for that simply because he's not anywhere near that level.

If Pacquiao lost to Clottey it would have been the biggest upset in years, now knowing that huge difference in class why should he get any sort of credit for what was an easy payday to break in a new stadium?
