Well, there are times when he lets loose combinations in spurts, so those rounds. Let's not mistake his inactivity for lack of skills/talent. When Clottey lets his hands go, he lands. He did it against all of his opponents, including Pacman.
Won easier then most expected...Didnt get the big KO or this jaw dropping performance but he won and won eay so yes
WHAT THE ****? An average opponent? He'd never lost a fight convincingly. And he was avoided by most of the other WW.
I'm not mistaking Clottey's inactivity. It is what it is. He throws sparsely, and he's not going to win a burst-fight with periods of waiting against Floyd. The fact that he hits most of his opponent and Pacquiao doesn't tell us how he'd do against Floyd. Either way, I see you've got your view on it and I've got mine. I just don't see him winning any rounds. Fair enough.
One of the best displays of styles making fights Clottey was NEVER going to trouble Pac But then you saw against Cotto who's not as elusive as Pac, Clottey was a lot more impressive.
I agree with you...I think Floyd would pretty much pitch a shutout on Clottey. Everything Clottey does well, Floyd does better. Clottey's not a bad fighter by any means, but Floyd's a cut above that. If Floyd really opened himself up for the fans, it's possible Clottey may take a round or two, but I still find it more likely that Floyd's speed would freeze Clottey's output similar to what Manny's did.
Yep. When I'm breaking down fights, I like to ask myself the question: What could "A" do to win rounds? What could "B" do to win rounds? When I break this on down, I just don't see viable scenarios where Clottey wins rounds.
http://www.theboxingtruth.com/article.php?id=406 Read that before you say "everybody knew Pacquiao would win easily".
What are you 12? Clottey did as he was told and stood rigid for 12 easy rounds. No way Pac was putting him down without a tank but Clottey is only dangerous if he punches...which he didn't. Arum's obedient lapdog.
I would say that anyone who goes to toe to toe with Cotto and Margarito and beats Corrales is a better than average opponent. Lotta hating going on here.
1-Pac 2-Mayweather 3-Mosley 4-Cotto 5-Clottey Mayweather wasn't happening, Mosley was lined upto fight Berto, he'd already beaten Cotto. Clottey was the highest possible guy Pac could get a fight with and he won all 12 rounds (even though 2 judges somehow gave Clottey a round), and you say that doesn't deserve credit??? It's the way he beat him that deserves credit, complete shut out.
It's a very respectable win. Is Clottey an elite fighter? No. Is he a hard night's work for any welterweight? Yes. Is he a hard night's work for a fighter operating two or three divisions about his ideal weight? Absolutely. The discrediting and scoffing of fighters' achivements needs to stop. It's a good win and credit is due.
