Does Pac possess the required ring intelligence?

pac has underrated ring intelligence....

 

Pacquiao isn't stupid. Far from it. But Roach is the brains of the operation. And he'll identify a problem before the fight, come up with the solution, and enforce it into Pac during training camp. It's that simple. He realised Pac needed a lead right hook to beat Hatton. He realised Pac needed vicious body shots to beat Clottey.

Any problems we see, I'm pretty sure Freddie Roach sees them too.

Mostly because of what SweetPea says - that Floyd is fairly easy to back up even moving straight forward, and also because Floyd [can fight against them no problem, but] doesn't particularly defend as well against Southpaws - I see this as a Pacquiao stoppage. And perhaps not even late.

Pac doesn't cut the ring off very well at all. Cotto showed that. But that can be added to his dearth of abilities in training camp. What troubles Floyd more than anything is footspeed. You've gotta be a pressure fighter to beat Floyd but you've gotta have the footspeed to get to him too. That's how Ricky Hatton kept him off balance for so long. And Pac is outstanding at closing gaps. He has the feints to draw the left side of Floyd's face too. Marquez had some joy with that a couple of times.

I don't think ring IQ will be a problem for Pac if he fights Mayweather because he doesn't really need any. If there's an adjustment that needs to be made Roach will notice it and tell him in the corner. The greatness of Pacquiao is that he can follow orders to the T. So there's that.

Clottey is a lot more heavy handed than Mayweather is. May's superior accuracy doesn't come in to it because Pac was letting Clottey land flush left and right hands as he pleased. PBF doesn't have the power to discourage Manny from swarming him. Not even close.

 

Pac's Ring IQ is really underrated. He has the smarts, though I think Mayweather has a better ring smarts than him. Is it enough to baffle Mayweather? I think so. Pac by a late TKO.
